Graphics mods?
Do any of the FF7 PC graphics mods work for this game? Higher res backgrounds would make this game purchasable. Otherwise, my PS3/Vita copy will suffice.

Yes. It's taken a bit of work, but I purchased this morning and have been playing with the realistic character models on the overworld and hi-res magic effects.

Not a plug and play mod though, so fair warning. If you're willing to DL about 20gigs and tinker with the installer though, it works nice.

For High Res Backgrounds you need to downpatch the game to 1998 release,
and then you are able to use these (the one from FacePalmer are the best)
My improved model project should work with the rerelease I guess. See here http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13960.0

I guess you could try dropbox or one of the many file sharing sites.

Mod for Final Fantasy VII - Steam Edition
****
Achievements and Cloud Saves still work!!!

In this package you'll find: High Quality Graphics and Advent Children Style Models. I recommend to install first the whole High Quality Graphicsand if you like Advent Children Models, install it too.

Installation guide is inside the package.

Download v.3.1
now with better multilanguage support and more hd textures (~1.36 GB):

High Quality Graphics (by LostAcc)
  • change field models of the party
  • enhanced battlegrounds
  • Achievements still works
  • better battle models (not everyone)
  • better minigame models
  • only the most important models are enhanced
  • no texture enhancement in the world
  • only the most important models are enhanced
  • no texture enhancement in the world

Advent Children Style Mod (mostly by CloudyStrife) - can be added optionally for:
  • new models of the party (Advent Children style)
  • new battle models (Advent Children Style)
  • altered intro movie
  • new Advent Children style avatars

What's impossible at the moment:
  • Better background textures with working achievements and cloud save. (maybe a filter would work - when we're lucky, a modder can implement that)

Installation:
Just unrar and change the files in your game folder. Make a backup of the files

Known bugs:
  • Barret first weapon (only this one) is white!
  • Nanakis eye is black in battle. But CloudyStrife487 has planned to update his model
  • some textures from frog enemy is missing
  • Gold Saucer hostesses are lying around untill you speak with one

I'm glad that it works :) But i forgot one thing to mention. So please make a backup for your old files. Because I've got crashes to desktop in Gold Saucer, when Cloud and Aerith play at the theatre. I just changed the files for this scene. Otherwise I didn't have another crash because of this mod.

Thanks Shinobi! I'll download that and have it on hand for when I pick up the PC version!

Just replace the folders in the data folder with those of the mod's.
It's located at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Final Fantasy VII\data\
or without the x86 part, if 32-bit OS.

A good thing to point out, fortunately I didn't have problems at that part:

I was going to scold you for not installing the background texture overhaul, but I don't think they ever did anything in Gold Saucer, so that's probably why that looks like garbage.

But in case you didn't, you totally should. That and the "1280" movie upgrade (which basically cakes a thick gaussian blur over everything but totally takes care of about 98% of the pixelation the source material) make the obvious age of the game a lot easier on the eyes. The modders for this game did a fantastic job when you consider the source material (a playstation game).
sonnycrockett06 Jul 10, 2013 @ 12:53pm
it wooooorks ^^ thank you very much!!

By the Way.... Where can i download this "1280" movie upgrade. I google it but i cant find anything... :S
