People view it through nostalgia-goggles however, since it's a lot of peoples first Final Fantasy game. Same with FFX.
Video games really do have awful stories though?
That makes sense actually. I guess I'm just too old and jaded now to get into it
I think FF8's story is bad and most of the gameplay is the same boring turn based combat that I've really moved away from having any interest in, but I still think the junction mechanic and how the GFs effected action options was a really fun addition to the game over what FF7 had in materia. Sure, drawing wasn't very fun, but you could use GFs to mostly avoid needing to grind out drawing for spell junctions.
Yeah, "all" was hyperbole. I think there are some games with passable stories, but that's generally much more from character development and interactions rather than the actually story/plot of the game itself.
Games age , get over it doesnt mean its not a good game.
