FF7 Not Launching [RESOLVED!]
So I bought the game about 5 days ago and I have not been able to play since then. When I launch the game from Steam, I am greeted by the FF7 launcher but when I click on "PLAY", nothing, the effin game refuses to launch. I know my system is way more than enough to play a PS1 game. If anyone can help me with this I would really appreciate it seeing as Steam or Sony support dont seem to be of any help at all.

Here are my system specs:

Windows 7
AMD FX-8320
GTX 660Ti
Gskill Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb
Gigabyte 990FXA UD3
WD 500gb
OCZ Fatality 750w PSU

Did the game launch ? What error did you get? Have you activated Square-Enix account in your mail?

You might have to create a Square Enix account if you haven't done that yet. You only need to log into it once then it'll let you play as much as you want. Turn off the cloud save (Square's cloud, not Steam's) and you can play it online too I believe. Hope that helps.
It does not launch. No error message. Yes my Square account has been activated and I was able to log in during installation. I can see my Square ID on the upper-right part of the launcher. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I CLICK PLAY, IT DOES NOTHING!!!! I have tried downloading ang installing twice. Uninstalled my antivirus updated .net framework. Manually installed Directx and vcredist included with game. SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!
Should I be seeing a log in screen after launching the game from steam? Because for me, it takes me directly to the launcher screen and I can see my account ID on the upper right corner but when I click PLAY nothing happens. I have ahd the game for days now and still cannot play. This really sucks big time!

have you verified integrity of game cache?
when i start it through steam, i get the launcher, with the options you stated, but im not forced to log in. however, yes i and many others were forced to sign up with a SE account first, but that doesnt sound like its the problem, considering you can see your user on the launcher window.
any other info might help if you have any info unlisted here.
but try verifying integrity and see if that changes anything. one more thing, make sure you are running steam / ff7 as administrator using win 7.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have tried verifying the game cache and running as admin.

Hum... Assuming you play plenty other games and it is not a new install I think the only thing left would be deleting all files, going to the game folder and deleting anything it didn't then downloading again.

I bought it a few days ago too and things worked without any problems at all, also using win7 here and my machine is so far behind yours that it is sad so can't be either.

Just to make sure, can you check if it opens the game process(ff7_en.exe *32 here) and stops there or does nothing at all?

EDIT:Oh and it just ocurred to me, have you tried launching from the game folder. Never had a problem myself but heard some people did that with other games and it worked.

Yes, Task Manager shows that ff7_en.exe*32 tries to run but only for a split second. When I try to launch the exe from the game folder I get the following error message;

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."

(edit: you got the error so never mind that)

Sounds like a corrupt file. Delete the exe then tell Steam to verify files.

I don't suppose your virus scanner is making any complaints about the game?

Error 0xc000007b seems to be rather common for all kinds of things though steam shows up quite often for lots of different games, the fixes I could find were basically:

1- Ensure it is not a virus.

2- Uninstall and install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages(2010 seems to be the problem but play it safe and just do them all) or go here[www.bitdefender.com] if you want to be more specific.

3- Install latest DirectX.

Another not really relevant one was for 32 systems trying to run a 64 bits program.

The not opening one or showing the same error*? Either way try what was mentioned here if you haven't already.

*I ask because the not opening one could mean you would be playing already but the error one would happen regardless of where you got it from.
@Chrnno

I have windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I have tried the guide on that link you posted, no luck though. Also, a quick update, I copied the game files on to my old laptop, installed it with steam and its working on that machine. I also noticed that while steam was installing the game on the laptop, there was a part where it said "Installing vcredist" and "installing DirectX" which it does not do on my PC. After seeing this I tried to manually install vcredist and driectx using the setup files included in the FF7 game directory. It still did not fix it. I kinda want my money back now..

The error you're getting has literally nothing to do with FF7 specifically. It's an error that occurs within various programs ranging from Visual Studio to MATLAB. The issue means your harddrive needs to be reformatted due to a bad image, or (this is the less painful way) download a repair utility for 0xc0000007b errors and set it to scan your FF7. Just google error 0xc0000007b, it's much more common than you think.

I had the same problem, game just wouldnt start via launcher with no error, just nothing happening.
I got it to work with deactivating all the steam and community stuff in the launch options in steam AND starting the laucher (not the FF7.exe!) from the install directory as administrator (right click, start als admin). If i set it as always launch as admin i get error messages similar to the one mentioned above.

If you havent tried that out yet it may be worth a shot.

Edit: Win7 Prof 64 here

Is your refresh rate on your graphics- monitor over 65Hz? If it is turn it down to 60hz, it worked for me.
