D-pad not working

I'm loosing my mind with this game, I just want to use a d-pad when cycling through the menus and for combat but no matter what I try it's as if the game automatically disables it every time the game starts, does anybody know how to get around this. I'm using wired xbox one controller.

Im using PS4 Controller and those downloadable Steam-Controls for FF7 when you click on the Controller Symbol but it will still show you the Keyboard Controls, i think you need some Mod from 7th Heaven so it will actually show the correct Controller Glphys inside the Game but when you launch the Game the first thing will always show the Keyboard Controls and you have to press X (on Keyboard), after that the Controller works, with 7th Heaven Mod it skips that

Install 7th Heaven, I get 100% Controller support, and you can even install a mod to get the Proper Xbox buttons in the UI, instead of the weird (MENU), (SELECT) and such

I had this problem too. You need to disable Steam input in the Steam controller settings for Final Fantasy VII. Then it should work as expected. But can also recommend 7th Heaven :D

I got my Steam Input active and it works but also got 7th Heaven
