Ultimate Weapon's gone missing

as the title says, any ideas how to get him to turn up? I last fought him over Mt. Nibel, didnt bother following him as I was doing something else at the time (just though while he was there I may as well get in a quick fight).

Since then, I've gotten a golden chocobo, everyone except Cloud's last limit achievements, gone through the ancient forest and mastered a load of materia/levelled up, so its not the case of go away and do something else, he'll show up eventually, he hasnt. I've checked all his usual hangouts, tried fighting next to the crater at Junon as he supposedly respawns there after every fight, nothing I can think of seems to work.

Any Ideas?

(also, do you have to beat him for Ruby to show up? and what's this 'character boosting' malarkey about?)

As far as I am aware Ultimate Weapon can float about fairly randomly but is constrained to nearish the official points he should be, he doesnt always spawn though you just keep having to go back and forth a bit sometimes. There are no prequisites other than the storyline where the weapons are all released.

It would appear that Emerald has vanished too. this has totally ruined my game, can't get all the achievements now

It can be quite to find him at times, as if you didn't fly straight to the Junon crater where he spawns he could be flying around any ocean.

I guess keep looking?
