ATB Glitched?
Is anyone else having issues with the "ATB" setting? I definately have it set to wait but it is definately not waiting. Monsters continue to endlessly attack even on my turn. I ran into 3 "Whole Eaters" in sector 6, right after Aeris' house, and they killed me before I could even make two actions. Anyone know a fix for this? It's actually making the game really hard to play.

Try getting into a battle with it set to "Recommended" and then after the battle turn it back to "Wait".

Remember, that |Active| is always on.

|Recommended| stops active time when cool animations play.

And |Wait| means it also slows time when you are in menus selecting stuff.

Those zone eaters are pretty vicious, but I think with some materia you could win. I mean all |Wait| would help ya with at that point, is while you are in the magic menu, pondering how come ya don't have a Restore materia to cast Cure! (maybe they are weak to Fire?)

I noticed this, too. I could have sworn WAIT meant that it became purely turn-based. What gives?

That's exactly what I'm talking about. First I was like "Ok, so what spell would kill these things faster" but by the time (about 3 seconds) I get around to picking something both Cloud and Aeris are nearly dead. So I switched to trying to cast cure with Aeris (whom also had a linked "All" materia) but I was dead before I could even hit the ok button to cast the spell.

It was honestly just a fluke. Combination pincer attack and the wait setting not working but that's just it. The wait setting doesn't work and I'd like to use it. It's been nearly ten years since I played the game.

Thanks, I'll give that a try and let you know if it worked. I also did a Google search and someone on another site suggested deleting my config file or just reinstalling. But I'll try your idea first so I know which one actually does the trick.

Getting into a battle with the ATB set to recommended and then setting it to wait did not work. Neither did deleting the config file or reinstalling. I guess I'll just have to wing it for the whole game x_x

I always used to play on Active on the PS1 version and was fine with it. I have found it a little too quick on the Steam version, especially against certain fast enemies and if trying to use magic.

I find recommended is absolutely fine though :)
