Issues with keyboard
Okay so I started playing this a week ago and had zero problems. The game loads up just fine and I get to the menu where I am told the key binds. No big deal. I hit the OKAY button and it comes to the New Game/Continue screen and it stops. It doesn't respond to any of my keyboard commands for up and down, or okay/cancel. It just sits there. I can tab out with no problems at all. I've gone to settings and set my keyboard binds to "default". I've even uninstalled the game and did a fresh installation. I've searched the net with no one having the problems I am. Anyone have a fix for this or at least know what is going on? I don't play it for two days and it just won't do anything at the new game/continue screen despite it clearly responding to my OKAY (X key) touch on the previous menu.

What issues are you having with your keyboard? Generally you just have to hit your OK (default X key) to get from the keyboard function screen to the New Game/Continue screen.

My issue is once I get to that screen my game just doesn't respond to my keyboard at all. Some support would be helpful. Surely I can't be the only one with this exact issue.

Is 'Continue' greyed out? Yes - probably Cloud save issue, try starting a new game.

You are definately hitting C or X on your keyboard at this screen, or whatever your OK button is?

Nothing is greyed out. It loads up perfectly to that point and then my keyboard shortcuts aren't recognized at all. Now I tried something that is strangely working is it accepts punches from my number pad. It responds to it perfectly fine, yet no matter what I do in the options it will not let me reset to my arrow keys despite every other game I've tried working perfectly fine with it.

I've only ever made changes to the bindings in game and that has worked fine for me. You need to always press the X/C key (i never remember which) on your keyboard.

Find it remarkable you can hit the OK button to get to this screen, but then can't hit the same button to start the game?!

A friend of mine found the problem. I had to delete the .cnfg file in my Steam folder. Apparently it was reading the old FFVII settings from the old PC release. He still has the original discs and the little cardboard piece that outlined the keys for the number pad. That is how the original game was outlined, deleting the config file fixed it right up.

What I find remarkable is my statement clearly outlines I knew very well how it worked as I had played the game successfully and it stopped working suddenly yet you assumed I was another "Oh hey I don't know how it works" thread. Thanks for the input but it's been resolved. I hope this post can help others who have the same issue.

@Nicholai
Where did you find the .cnfg file? I tried looking in my steam folder and i couldnt find it anywhere. Been having the same issues with the keyboard interface not working at all for me.

Has anyone found where the .cnfg file is? Can't find it anywhere and my game won't respond just like it was stated in the initial comment

Seeing as it's been awhile it is a bit hazy but...

Computer -> Locak Disk (C) -> Program Files (x86) -> Steam -> SteamApps -> common -> Final Fantasy VII.

You should find it there in that main folder. Remove it and stick it to your desktop and try it. If it doesn't work you've found the wrong file, try checking in the data folder.

Can't find it at all :/ Tried in the main folder then checked the data as well, nowhere in there. Thanks though

Gaving the same issues at the moment. I'm trying to figure out how to disable that dumb Keyboard layout screen since I play with a controller and it's currently not even letting me get to the Continue/New Game screen.

Fix your sh*t Square!
