FF7 Local Saves gone??
Alright, now I've been a fan of Final Fantasy VII since I was only 5 years old, and seeing as how this amazing game has found its way to Steam, I figured i'd pay homage to purchase it once again, although I've played and beaten it in it';s entirety more times than I can count.

I am however quite frustrated at how Steam decided to completely erase all of my local save files. After reaching Costa de Sol, I had saved my game locally (because the cloud saving feature decided it didn't feel like working for me) and I quit and shut down my PC. I've done this a number of times so far, adding up to just over 5 hours of gameplay, and now that I want to continue, it seems as though these files dont exist anymore. Steam says I have the achievements for all I've managed to do so far, and I know Steam doesn't save these games based on achievements, but my save game is gone entirely. I've checked the local directory to try and salvage my save files, but no such files exist.

Why the hell has this happened?? And why did it decide to delete my saves?? It almost makes me want to demand a refund, but all I wanted to do was play my favorite game...

Does anyone know how to aid this? Please help me D;

Can ya navigate to "your computer stuff" \Documents\Square Enix\Final Fantasy VII Steam\

If that folder exists, you could right click it, and select "Restore Previous Versions"

I know ya said ya done this already, but if they got lost on a sync, I could send ya a file to pick up on. One of the joys of FFVII is sharing save files with friends!

Check your Square Account and see if you have any Cloud saves that you can use.

If a save file becomes corrupt or doesnt match the metadata file they'll get deleted.
Only thing i can suggest is to save in multiple slots and not use Cloud at all if possible.
You may want to check this thread as well, see if the same thing happend to you

One piece of advice is move your saves to a backup local location if you are afraid of that.

Technotronics, your suggestion worked flawlessly. I did'nt even know that restoring to an earlier point worked lol, I've never ever used that feature before for anything because there's usually NEVER a previos version for anything lmao.
But thank you guys for your help, you're all super freakin' awesome.

And it just so happens that I had just reached Gongaga lol,i forgot how quickly I was moving through this game :P

Have a Happy New Year, guys, you all deserve to get laid more than once :D

+1
I reinstalled all my drives after low level formatting (for certain reasons), and reinstalled my OS to a SSD. Kept my old drive data on a different hard drive and when I went to play FF VII, all my saves were gone! :`( Luckily, your post told me where the save files were locally, so I copied and pasted and wal*lah! Thank you!

I try right clicking it, but restore previous sessions, doesn't come up...

If anyone is still having problems there is a way of sorting this.

Download a program called blackchocobo it is a save system program, find your old save and import it into the user folder for you current save, delete the current save and replace it through blackchocobo it will then restore you old save file :)
