I'm a FF fanboy too & I still signed up to an SE account so I could play XI, 7 & 8. Take my money SE.
There is no legitimate reason why Square Enix should know who does and doesn't play their game. If I were to buy this game, I'd create a fake email account with no PII's for them to track.

It says it right there on the store page.
There are lots of reasons but, i'm not going to go into them you would never listen. You buy it if you want and do that or don't whatever. If you do have fun it's a wonderful game.
Besides. This isn't the only game here on Steam that has a seperate launcher from Steam itself that requires you to create an account, so forth and so. I.E. See any of the D&D Titles, SW's Titles and others as well in which you have to input all of the login information every single time because the blasted things don't save your login information. Paid or FTP it's still there.
But that's just my logic and reasoning.
You can play it offline & I'd disable cloud saves though since people have reported their save files vanishing. Ive made several save files just in case.
I'm not really in the habit of checking the system requirements of almost twenty year old games...
I'm also not really sure how people are so ok with this. There was a time way back when that you didn't have to sign up for a third party account for every game you purchased. even games that were exclusively online didn't require it. Do you really think it'll be better when every game requires its own account even if its a two decade old rerelease?
