Big Guard help

I'm trying to obtain the 'Big Guard' enemy skill from the beachplugs but it seems no matter what I do I just don't obtain it at all, I use Tifa to manipulate so the beachplug can point towards Cloud and Barrett, next turn, use Big Guard on them, nothing. Anyone else have this problem?

I think there are only 2 or 3 reasons this could be happening;

* you don't have the enemy skills equipped to a character in battle.
* you have 2 or more equipped to the same character, and one of the materia already has the skill learned. In this case, the other materia will not learn the skill. Change the character.
* you are running from battle after casting Big Guard. You need to kill the Beach Plugs.
