Save games disappearing?
So i just bought the game and was playing though it and i made a save near the start of the game on all 10 slots, and saving memorable moments on various slots, like the first time you go to junon and etc.

All my main saves were on slot one and when i try to load the game today after a few days of not playing, slot one says 'no save data found'.

My last memorable/back up save is back in junion, which is about 5-6 hours back. Is there anything i can do to recover the data, and if not, is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening in the future? Cloud saving is off, i tried to turn it on just now and didn't fix it, but it gave me a 'corrupt' save file on slot 3 that has a part of 3 clouds, lvl 0, 0:00:00 time, and all black. I checked all the cards before turning on cloud saves to see how far back my last data was, so i knwo it wasn't there before.

I also have no mods on the games, i've only just bought it and want to play through it unmodded first. No music changes, no files changes whatsoever. But, if tehre is a mod that will prevent this, pls let me know as well.

Keep Cloud disabled
Save in multiple slots just incase, any number of things can cause the save to be deleted whether it be the game itself or even your PC.

Steam cloud is hosed as usual. Turn it off and leave it off forever.

Thanks for the help guys, cloud saving was off the entire time, but the saves would disappear if i left the game running or minimized when i slept. I don't know if it's a matter of the game running for more then x hours, being left idle for x hours, or being minimized for x hours. I also can't figure out why the game suddenly stopped supporting directximput control format, so i had to switch my control to emulate a 360 controller.

Fun game but a terrible terrible port imho lol

I didn't have any problems until disc 2, then whenever I opened the launcher it would delete my save file, cloud saving was off. In the end I had to open the launcher then paste a backup of my save file into the save folder and then open the game. Just remember to keep backups of your save files outside of the FF7 save folder.

lol, that's exactly what i do complete muppet :P play the game, every hour or two back up the saves and exit the game just to see if it's going to have a problem. As long as I keep it down to about 2 hours play time though, my saves don't disappear.

If anyone knew how to get direct x control working again though, would be happy to hear it. The game doesn't feel right using an analog stick, and i can't get the d pad working with the game when i have it set as a 360 controller

Yep. I just had the dreaded save game disappearance. Luckily I did back up the save file but I lost 6 hours of gameplay. My Steam cloud was disabled too so I don't think that's the issue. The game wasn't even running. Hate that I have to do that whole section of the game all over again plus all the grinding...ugh!

warlok97, had you been playing for 6+ hours straight? Had you left the game running in an idled state?

I'd like to narrow this down as best as possible to prevent issues in the future, or if nothine else, the first time it happens, if we know why, it's easier to prevent it from being the 'first of many times' lol

I am curious since it seems people are leaving the game running when they sleep/away for long periods, if that the PC went into hibernate mode and lost the file?
bjjorick Dec 7, 2014 @ 8:46am
well, my comp is set to not go into hibernation, but in my case, the hard drive is set to idle. After coming back to the game, i usually check my email and do a few things online, notice i walked away from the game, saved it and then close it.

The second time, i saved the game after this, when to the save folder, and checked that it showed that the file was updated (showed current time/date) so the save did get saved to hard drive, then i closed the game, but it didn't go back to the ff7 launch screen. It was still running when i restarted the computer a few hours later (it still showed ff7 something in task manager) but the game was completely closed.

I tried to launch the game on steam before the restart and it gave an error. Perhaps it's a memory leak or some small part of it is getting stuck in task manager/memory that is causing it? I know a good amount about computers and troubleshooting, but i'm not a programmer, so i don't understand that side of it much.

I can't progress through the game at all. My saves always revert to the first save point before the #1 reactor boss. I don't leave the game open when not playing, and I exit cleanly. This makes playing the game completely impossible.
bjjorick Dec 10, 2014 @ 11:09am
mad, do you have cloud saving turned on or turned off? How do you exit the game?

When you save in the game, (say after the reactor, you save outside of aeris's house, also showing a different party member, if you try to save again before you close the game, do the saves update?)

If you give me a few details, I will do my best to help you get past this problem as I have spent a little time looking into it. I can't guarentte you anything, but i'll do my best :P

Really sorry to state the obvious, but will just in case...you are remembering to actually find a save point to save the game, rather than simply exiting? I mean you do alude to having a save, so i guess so, but...just checking!

Lol that's funny martin cross, but excellent point, and within hte realm of possibility for those who have never played older games.

so this just happened to me, i play on two different laptops, and i had cloud enabled, does it still save locally?? i have found the square enix in mydocuments, but i do not know how to find the info, is in the cache? im not seeing anything that says save 1 etc. the last two times i played was on my 2nd laptop, and the 1st synced fine, however the 2nd time i played i played for 10 hours+ and made 3 save slots for various points of my farming, before temple of the ancients and went to play again today, on same laptop, and it failed to sync
