What is even the difference between ATB active, wait, and recommended.
I'd tried out all of these and can't find any difference. Enemies still attack me as I navigate menus even when I set it to wait.

Active means the time bar is always filling up for both allies and enemies, even while navigating menus and during attack animations.

Recommended stops the time bars from filling during attacks, but not while menus are open.

Wait stops the time bar during attack animations AND while scrolling through menus.

Why do enemies continue to attack me while I navigate menus when I set it to wait then.

Same here. When I first saw it, set it to wait and watched for an attack. Only thin g I noticed is my allies bars stopped, but the attcks kept coming..I didn't follow that to it's logical conclusion, though..my defeat.

Edit: Maybe it has to be set while playing through the ff7 website. At any rate, I don't worry about it.

Wait only stops when you're browsing attacks, magic, summons, items, etc. Wait doesn't stop when you're on the list of commands.

This is some BIG BS. Any mods to fix that? Don't care about necroing this thread.

I haven't played this in a couple of years, so you could be right. I did a quick websearch and found similar threads as well as checked the FF7 manual which leads me to believe I am correct.
"BS" and "fix that"? assuming you're coming from X where you can get a cup of coffee everytime while thinking about a possible command?

This game starts very slowly, besides the attack and item command you hardly have magic. So what takes you so long to think about an action? And when you finally will have gathered some nice materia you should be long enough in this for being able to handle the easy combat system.

Are kids nowadays not able anymore to handle some quite harmless time pressure?

And if this is still too much, then there is a pause button during battles...

Different skill levels for different folks.

It does not work like it should.

On the PS1 if it was set to 'wait' you could afk on your turn

why should you do that anyway? and again, there's a pause button. This game's easy enough without action time being up to eternity. And not talking about "challenge" here, since most fights you win with spamming the attack command..

Yes, you're right. You could pause instead, and the game isn't challenging.

you are actually wrong. even in original ps1 version the wait applies only when you are in menus that chooses targets, magics, summons and items not in the list of commands itself

If you need to AFK or something you can just push the Pause button and come back

Guys, if "wait" made it so that time didn't pass while sitting at the menus, when exactly could it pass? It doesn't pass during attack animations, it doesn't pass while selecting a spell or item, so if it also didn't pass while sitting at the initial selection during combat, time would never pass, and you would never be able to attack to begin with.

Maybe they just want to argue? I'm just going by what I remember and what the game manual says. Could be wrong. Anyways, great game. Going to unsubscribe from this discussion.
