magic, summons. once complete , u are able to make/get master materia for the type.
which may take some time but once u have it its so worth it. and you only need master 1 fire 1 ice and so on. not 4x same thing
materia sets incase confused are based by the types.
magic = magic master
summon = summon master
those are the two that have master materia all others dont i think.
Also to get a Master Materia you need to get all Huge Materia as you need to interact with the specific Huge Materia to get the Master Materia and I can't remember if it prompts you, but upon gaining a Master Materia you lose every single mastered materia of that type.
For example you go up to the Green/Magic Huge Materia and use it to gain a Master Magic you will then lose every single Magic materia you mastered.
Basically, you need every single type of materia in the game mastered as well as a complete Enemy Skill, Underwater (this doesn't need to be mastered since it already is 'mastered'), and all 3 Master Materias in your inventory.
To save up on massive grinding just beat Emerald Weapon for it's Earth Harp, then trade it to the man in Kalm to get all 3 Master Materia.
I don't have the achievement yet, but from what I read in the discussions you only need 1 complete Enemy Skill and after you double checked you got every materia mastered you may have to go and beat 1 random battle for the achievement to pop, I've also heard that you also may have to 'Master' Enemy Skill last due to a bug.
Refer to this guide if you're still unsure.

which i was just naming the ones that popped up in my head.
which should add the big materia are limited time so do becareful not to miss out.
and bahamut final is gained by fusing them at one of the big materia.
which i do indeed think u lose the master versions as u said.
I assume you mean Bahamut Zero, but you don't need to fuse anything, all you need to do is get all 3 Huge Materia as well as have Bahamut and Neo Bahamut in your inventory, then interact with the Blue Huge Materia.
last time i played thru unsure if i had. but this game is always great for replays and hunting down side stuff <3
