Am i completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥? (Hojo boss fight)

hey guys, i'm at the hojo boss fight. Been at it about six hours and have not been able to finish this guy. I'm about seven levels below what i should be, have one phoenix down left, so i can't grind, have no ribbons to protect from status ailments, no materia to defend myself, revive party mates, or attack hard enough. Ill make it to his third form and my party is immediately asleep and i can just wait til they're all slaughtered to start over. Is my effort fruitless at this point?

So this is the point where you can't go back and you have no past saves right? I think we need to know establish exactly what you have in your arsenal to best prepare yourself.

Are you saying you have NO Cure materia? What Enemy Skills do you have? Do you have the Hades and Added Effect materia?

I'm not sure what enemies you can fight on that tower; but 1 Phoenix Down or not, you should be able to grind and steal/win some items from enemies without dying?!

You must have some kind of materia for your party. You can equip accessories to make a member immune to sleep. Or you can use the added effect+seal materia combo in your armor to resist it.
Like martin says please tell us your current setup.

You have spent six hours on a fight that should normally take a few minutes. You might want to check out some of the guides or walkthroughs , to make your characters into what they should be - half of what a Final Fantasy game is all about.

Grats I beat him last night felt good to beat down that demented scientist.

Luck it seems. I equipped cloud and tifa both with restore-all and (shamefully) didn't have revive. got my limits up before i got to him so i was able to swing his first form into oblivion. Stuck with powerful materia like comet for the second stage, and for the third stage used every single summon i had up to that point. Now I'm grinding at a comfotable spot for the final boss with just the right items and materia i'll need. Will have the final boss beat in no time.

denim on a side note here, next time make sure you have some emergency saves; Start making some saves along the way to the final boss. I know it must be fun to have a challenge like that, but it might also be frustrating to get stuck in a given place of a game where you can't do nothing about it. Like they say "Better safe than sorry!"

I try to have 2 saves, I don't always remember but I try to keep a save in any 'open' part of the game. I've completely dropped a game and not gone back for years because of stuff like this.

I've beaten 7 now (it kicked ass) but now i'm heading through 8, so i'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks all!

at this point you should have picked up the W-Item materia.
if you use one then cancel the next you will get an extra and you can cheat your way to more pheonix downs (also works if you just have 1 use the first then go to use, point at character then back in inventory) i know it takes the challenge out of the game with 99 megalixers...but if you just use it on things like pheonix down or items to sell to get the gill achieve ment... ehh
