Personally, I just raise the AP multiplier, enable Lucky Tifa, and set the lock inventory tweak so you can use elixirs and Source items indefinitely.
If you just want to play for the story, those mods will make it a breeze. Likewise they also have tweaks to make the game harder if you ever feel like doing a challenge run. Personally, I just wanted a story refresher before the PC port of Rebirth, so they've been perfect for my needs.
TBF, you would really have to go out of your way to enable Square Enix cloud saves tho considering the modloader bypasses the Squenix launcher entirely.
This is not true. It depends on what mods you use. In my case, during my experiments, I used mods while still using the launcher.
I'm a simple individuel, and when it comes to these sorts of games, I don't wish to alter the looks and sounds. I just want the option for speed and battle boosters. That's it, hence why I didn't use 7th heaven mods.
