Using 'Underwater' for Emerald Weapon
Hi guys, im having some trouble killing emerald weapon using the w-summon KOTR/mime strat. I read somewhere that if you dont use Underwater materia it decreases the chances of him casting 'Air Tam'. Just wondering if you guys used it to beat him , or left it out.

Any other tips are appreciated too :)

So you'd pick your best materia for those slots right/the ones that need the most AP, but you don't have maxed because you used a limit break technique to kill Emerald?

easiest / quickest way to master KotR (Triple growth 50,000AP multplied by 2 weapons (RUBY and EMERALD) =300,000AP. Plus 33 Magic Pots (xTRIPLE growth), plus rndm smallfry...... others I had on triple were EnemyAway, MegaAll, Counter(blue), and, DoubleCut.

Remember, if the materia is mastered, the AP is wasted - thats why I used L4 HP Plus

For sure. I think the point i am trying to make is that most people will have many of the high level, AP-hungry materia already mastered by the time they attempt to fight the Weapons.

There are not many strategies whereby you can utilise the AP these guys give you.

Using level 4 HP Plus' is hardly worth the effort. A few magic pots and they pop a star already.

Not neccicerilly, I can Imagin that a lot of people will have KotR at L3-4, and a couple of Purples/Blues that don't fit with their playstyle (like Cover, EnemyAway, LongRange, EXPPlus, Elemental, StealAsWell, AddedEffect etc) at quite a low level and, even if they have, then a few 'All' materia to sell (1.4000.000gil each) would gain some use from the battle/s (In theory, if you had fresh 0AP 'All' on every materia slot (Double Growth) it would master after 1 fight, sell them, equip the baby 'All's do the other weapon fight, sell the mastered and you have 67milllion gil plus whatever you already had) So the materia slots can be useful for AP-farming even if you DON'T need it for mastery of materia, it does/ could make getting 99,999,999gil quicker than pot-farming (and a lot easier/quicker if you are not using W-item glitch)

point, but (without W-item glitch) its a lot of effort to get that many elixers for both the HPPLus and other materias, and i preferred to use the Magic-pot AP for others first, so Stealing Elixers (when often I didn't have Steal equipped as it was mastered already) or digging in bone village for them is still quite a bit of effort in itself.
Remind me of your strategy again? What double-growth weapons are you using? You seem to be mixing strategies and advice that conflict with one another. What math did you use to make 67m gil in 2 Weapon fights? You know you need to have materia equipped that will actually be of use, right?!
I said in theory, which would indicate all 3 party members with 4-slot double growth (everyone has one[except Vincent {unless I've just not found it}] - Rune Blade, Wiser Staff[not that Aeris is alive at this point], Platinum Fist, Drill Arm, Twin Viper, Plus Barrette, Black M-Phone, Viper Halberd) for both weapon and armor(Rune Armlet), all 8 slots on all 3 party members filled with 'all'. this would, of course mean either over 8888 default HP or beating emerald without it using 'Aire Taem' and heavy item use + physical attacks to kill it within 20mins. Likewise it would need ruby to start with 2 dead members, quick PhoenixDowns and heavy item use + physical attacks to kill it. Almost (if not entirly) impossible, but the game mechanics would allow it, hence, as I said, 'IN THEORY'. this would master 24 all materia each weapon fight (8x3), a total of 48 all materia - thats 1,400,000 x 48 = 67,000,000gil. It was given as an extreme case, the absolute maximum the game would allow, to illustate that even a single peice of double (or triple) growth equipment with near-useless duplicate, non-mastered materia would still be valuable for gil. For an actual strategy, if you don't have any high-AP cost materia that need the AP, then one character with Rune Armlet filled with 'All' materia's (that 4 'All's per fight, 8 in total, 8x1,400,000=11,200,000gil plus the 50,000gil/weapon for victory, more if you have 'gil plus' equipped too) give that charactor Final-Attack-Life and leave the rest of the slots empty for that charactor in the emerald fight, so they won't be insta-killed by 'Aire Taem' Others have the actual useful materia. only use HPPlus if it raises HP by more than 1111(this can replace empty slots on your 'all' character if you so wish). For ruby, similar thing, but never leave a materia slot empty (and HPPlus is still useful even if it boosts HP by less than 1111) Use your 'all' charactor for Item use-(healing) and Limits the others go with their strongest attacks as often as possible, unless you need to heal more often than once a turn. Sorry if I wasn't too clear on what I meant with the inital explination.
^^^ My brain hurts.........
