To have a perfect save file, it's a challenge, that is all. It has nothing to do with anything else. There are a lot of challenges that people set themselves to make this game harder during the play throughs of the game, as they have completed the game so many times.

also im just curious if anyone reading this has got a perfect game (all missable items and enemyskill) by memory? this would be close to impossible for me lol, as much as i love the game and story i always overlook something when i play through the game lol

I'm going for a perfect game right now. I am using gamefaqs and youtube videos as references. It's my first time going for it but I've beaten the game so many times I figured it would be fun to mix it up. There are different variations of a "perfect" game. I'm going for one where I at least have one of every item, don't miss any items in the game, all possible key items and the best ones, max lvl/stats, all materia/mastered, etc. There's one where you go for 99 of all items/max for those you can only obtain a certain amount of. I find that would be way too time consuming for me lol.

Honestly, "perfect game" is subjective depending on the person. Some people get freaked out if they end up missing a potion from an NPC, or missed a treasure from a dungeon that you can get in a item or weapon shop. I guess for some, they want to get everything to have a challenge, but for me, what counts in a perfect game is only getting anything that is unique and missable. Like for instance, getting bahamut, neo bahamut, w-item, ziedrich by stealing from all the rude battles, etc. Any item that is unique and missable is what I would count in a perfect game. Not normal items that you miss from tedious stuff like doing the condor battles.

I am running through the game again and I have left a save back in the trainyard for the 99 of everything perfect game. It is extremely tedious though. Particularly getting 99 varygrisk claws is insane. A 4.9% chance or so at level 11 and decreasing with each level. For now I just want one of each item at least and Master Materia and such. Absolute Steve's guide on gamefaqs http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197341-final-fantasy-vii/faqs/45703 is my favorite guide for either a perfect game or casual play through.

Yeah, to me a perfect game is absolutely everything and the w-item trick and repeating boss battles trick are fair game. I might have to start a new gamesometime soon and go for it.

That walkthrough is the best one i ever used. I believe its the one I used to use a long time ago, but i lost the link and i have been trying to find it again the last few months reciently. thanks for the link
No problem at it. It definitely has it all and I've used it many play throughs. I had ambitions of trying to do a perfect game without using the w-item trick and the like but all that stealing is truly painstaking.
