Finding Yuffie

I find out about her while I was well ahead in the story, decided to not pay much attention to finding her and carried on with the game. Now I'm wondering if I should have looked for her, and if it's too late.
Spoilers: I'm currently looking for Cloud, after we get out of Junon aboard the Highwind. Will finding her change something in the story? Or mix it up? I'd rather keep the story intact and maybe get her in my next run.

Both Yuffie and Vincent are optional characters, it doesn't affect the story, although there is a bit of sub-plot, but nothing too serious.

You can get her at any point.

Certain forests have a higher chance to encounter her, Rocket Town forest has a 99% (or 91%) chance to find her. There is also a quest in Wutai that can only be done on disc / part 1 and 2, so if you want her and want to 100% the game then get her before disc / part 3.

Thanks for the replies. By Rocket town you mean the town where you find Cid, right? Should I just wander around it until Yuffie appears? Because all I can see around it is "grass".

The forest near Gongaga - which looks a little like a broken egg - you will encounter her i think 100% of the time. Even forests getting close to Cosmo Canyon i think you will find her. It is quite hard NOT to find her if you are running in forests in these areas! :)
