Is there a way to fast forward in the PC version?
Like you can in the PS4 version?

if you use cheat engine you can boost the game speed. not sure if that's "legal" or not, but I'd assume it would work with this game. I havn't tried through so I dunno. the stupid DRM is keeping me from even playing at all. Time to bust out the ps1 I guess

Interested in this too.

Why are people so completely incapable of just playing games now? It's really no surprise that the remake is a dumbed down mess if this is what it has to cater too...

most of us aren't kids any more and don't have the 100+ hours it takes to master the materia. a little boost in the games speed can help with that. Or if you're like me, you use the speed bump that CE offers to make games like the FF4 remaster a playable speed. Not sure why but my game was 30fps in the world which is fine, but only 15fps in battles. I dunno about you but I don't like playing in slow motion. I just bumped the game to a locked 60fps and played like normal at what I considered to be a normal running speed

As Quinian says, 1997 was a vastly different time in terms of game development, it had to really make the most out of stuff since storage media was pretty unforgiving. As such you get a lot of grinding and backtracking to buff out the gameplay.

How can you not have 100 hours? Are you terminally ill?

You can play 1 hour per week and still play 100 hours. Failing that, if you can't put the time in then you don't deserve the reward.

This is what's wrong with the games industry these days...

The game requires zero grinding to complete the main story and back tracking isn't a thing in open world... It wouldn't feel natural at all to progress through the world in a series of levels, never visiting the same place twice. In fact that actually sounds a lot more like game design of the 90s...

lol well when ya put it like that, I guess I have the time. All I ever used the thing for was to make old game run at a reasonable speed of 60fps. Pretty sure I've never 100% FF7 before. It's just such a massive game

I cleared it with 100% Steam achievements in ~100 hours after not having touched the game for about 5 years and having forgotten a few things.

It is a big game, but surely that's a good thing. I don't know about you, but the more hours of fun I get out of a game the more value I feel like I've gotten for my money. I paid for the original PC release, original PSX release and the Steam release and I feel like I've definitely gotten my moneys worth. :)

Whoa... relax man. How about this. Did you ever think... that just maybe... we want to run through the game again quickly just to play for the story? That instead of wasting 100h grinding and doing all that bs that we did 18 years ago.. we could just enjoy the story while there is tons of excitement for the remake? And maybe we'd use the time we saved doing other things... like play other new games... or spend time with our families?

Ask yourself why people asking for THE OPTION bothers you so much...

being a massive game is not a bad thing at all. I'm actually glad it's so huge, especially for it's time. I bought it on PS1, PC twice, PS1 classic something.. so I could play on my PS2, Steam, and PSN. I love this game, bad translations and all lol

Why do you care so much. Sure, we were kids there was plenty of time to finish games 100% and kids still do these days. But there are a lot of people out there who are have real jobs, real families, real friends, real lives (not implying that you don't, but for some people it's not an option to spend 100 hrs away from these things). Some people just want to quickly relive their childhood memories, or others like me who've played ff1-6 but never got around to ff7 just want to spend some down time between work assignments playing a good game, but play it on fast because my breaks are short. The amount of gameplay you can get done in segments of 5-10 minutes is really small and makes the entire experience super fragmented.
