How can you not have 100 hours? Are you terminally ill?
You can play 1 hour per week and still play 100 hours. Failing that, if you can't put the time in then you don't deserve the reward.
This is what's wrong with the games industry these days...
The game requires zero grinding to complete the main story and back tracking isn't a thing in open world... It wouldn't feel natural at all to progress through the world in a series of levels, never visiting the same place twice. In fact that actually sounds a lot more like game design of the 90s...
I cleared it with 100% Steam achievements in ~100 hours after not having touched the game for about 5 years and having forgotten a few things.
It is a big game, but surely that's a good thing. I don't know about you, but the more hours of fun I get out of a game the more value I feel like I've gotten for my money. I paid for the original PC release, original PSX release and the Steam release and I feel like I've definitely gotten my moneys worth. :)
Ask yourself why people asking for THE OPTION bothers you so much...
Why do you care so much. Sure, we were kids there was plenty of time to finish games 100% and kids still do these days. But there are a lot of people out there who are have real jobs, real families, real friends, real lives (not implying that you don't, but for some people it's not an option to spend 100 hrs away from these things). Some people just want to quickly relive their childhood memories, or others like me who've played ff1-6 but never got around to ff7 just want to spend some down time between work assignments playing a good game, but play it on fast because my breaks are short. The amount of gameplay you can get done in segments of 5-10 minutes is really small and makes the entire experience super fragmented.
