the next 10 playthroughs it really starts to be a buzzkill especially since you need to race them to S as well to get Black chocobo and above.
(There are advanced save game editors for FF7 you can use if you decide to play the game again after doing it legit once)
if it really ruining your playthrough you can get a Gold Chocobo for defeating Ruby Weapon just for trading the item you get without the hassle of breeding and racing.
(of course this will be at the end of the game when you don't really need it anymore and won't have Knights of the Round for the Weapon fights as most noobs use the Knights of the Round method to defeat them first time (i did) or you can just use tha faster Barrets Limit Break Angermax with Mime way)
Though when i was a kid playing this on the Playstaion in the 90's, the Chocobo racing was one of the biggest parts of the game for me and a friend.
I spend hours playing it the normal way, just placing bets and being hooked to it.
