Is there a way to auto battle in this game?
Because not having auto battle would be a huge turn off for me and I kinda want this game since Cloud is now in smash (might as well give him a chance, right?)

why would you want autobattle? A better question is, why would you want to get a game and not play it? Literally half the fun of rpgs is the battle. As a side note, to answer your question yes and no. No as in there is no specific system in place that makes them battle for you, yes as in you can just hold down the conferm button durring battle and they will all attack (which in this game is almost never advised to just have your team straight up attack.)

Since combat is more or less (semi) turn based, autobattle would be superfluous.

I remember 'playing' this on the ps1 with the channel turned over to a tv show, my controller set to auto run in circles and the confirm set to autofire. I'd swap back to make sure that my guys were still farming gil and whatever they called the magic XP(was this espers, mana or what... cant recal...) and they would be. This game, like nearly all jrpgs(or at least the sqareoft ones i've played) has obscene amounts of grind and repetition. It's battle system has almost no strategy involved, you can in fact plow through trash mobs for xp and loot with the primary attacks till you get to a boss or random thing that may or may not have a gimmick, but then it's usually elemental weakness of some sort(cure on undead, fire on ice, using reflect to bounce spells around). IIRC Cloud can echo or mimic or whatever the doublecast was his limit break or any of them can do the same for a bigas summon or spell for maximum effect. I don't recall having to manage my inventory and potions and MP at all, healing was rarely an issue.

The "fun" of rpgs comes from the role play, the setting, the immersion, the lore and story, in this game the stats and battle system are completely seperate from that except as a timegate to more story. You never use your party for anything other then head on confrontation, take the honey bee situation, iirc none of your stats and abilities matter in completing the tasks to infiltrate the area, barret can't brute his way in, aeris(or tifa... yuna... ♥♥♥♥ i can't recall her name im on cold drugs and have a headache...)or can't charm her way in she has to have cloud do it in a contrived scenario, you can't set up a thief type build or mage thing to psych them out, you can't barter your way in caue all your loot goes towards armor and weapons and magic. I recall another scenario in the shinr building, you had to sneak past guards you could easily dispatch, and if they caught you you had to go back and start the thing over. You can't build for stealth, speechcraft them, bribe them, or even brute force them, you HAVE to do the sneaky button mashy minigame, which iirc never even shows up again though other button mashy stuff does....

To be fair when you are leveled enough you can just hold down attack for most battles with no problem.

FFVII doesn't have auto-battle, but generally the battles are either quick enough that you don't really need auto-battle, or involve enough tactics that auto-battle wouldn't be useless.

If you don't have time to play the game then don't play it. I can't believe gamers have gotten so casual that they expect the game to play itself now...

Games like these, you wish you could just watch the cutscnenes online and get the story from there. I'm in the same boat, I wanna play it for the story but I cannot enjoy turn based RPGs anymore, except for maybe Pokemon and Dragon Quest. I burned myself out a couple years ago. I might just wait for the remake. RPG battles, are still basically a simulation for action combat. Something that made more sense as tabletop RPGs but kinda lost it's purpose when it came on to more capable consoles. So it's not really that I don't have time for it, it's just I don't want to waste my time on hours of fluff that's just there to extend the playtime.

I think you can just watch the Cutscenes. Haven't looked for FF VII specifically, but there are tons of Cutscene movies online, but that a damned lot of reading. I will have to try the button tape trick near the Ancient Temple, and check on the game every ten minutes or so, to ensure the HP level stays high enough. At least until I get Final Attack, Maxed with Maxed Pheonix anyway. Then I could let it run indefinately with very little worry. Especially if you have another Pheonix linked with MP absorb.

There isn't an auto battle option, it would take a part out of the gameplay if it had it. Fighting enemies & grinding XP are part of playing an RPG.

You can speed up battles using various materia combinations later on though which makes it less tedious.

go play Final fantasy 13 this is an RPG not a bloody movie that "auto battle" feature removes half the play. Stupid Question OP is a moron

Let me guess Born after 1990? No there is not an Auto-Battle Setting.
Codester Dec 23, 2015 @ 9:44am
Guys, he just asked a question you don't need to insult the OP. While I agree an auto battle option would be terrible, there is no reason for the butt hurt flaming. A simple one reply "no" would suffice.

That is why i said "almost never" sure if you're late game max level kinda thing, just attacking wont be a problem for the most part.

Then i'm sorry to say, but you are still missing half the point of these kinds of games. As i said, half the appeal of RPGS are the battles. Considering they are about half the game, if you just skip them or have ai do it for you then you're literally missing out on half the game. I could understand not wanting to waste effort on small enemies in earlier areas when you're like lvl 99, but in general that's not the case.
