How can I switch party members?

Hello everyone,
I just bought the PC version of FF7 and I'm a bit confused. I just left Midgar and I'm on the world map. I remember that on the PS verdion there was (once I had access to the menu) the "switch" option, which with I could train different member of the party while walking, exchange materia etc. This function is missing in the PC version. Will it appear later/do I remember incorrectly that it was possible to switch members? Is it a bug someone else found?

You go to the menu screen & select the PHS option when you're on the world map or at a save point to change party members.

To exchange materia you go into the materia screen for a character then pick the exchange option.
