I can't like this game no matter what

They say this game is fantastic and a masterpiece - the best Final Fantasy game. But I can't be motivated to finish this game no matter how hard I try.

I like the remake but I'm pretty sure it's not the graphics of the original that keeps me from being motivated. I really don't know why I just don't feel like playing this game. Maybe the battle, it is just makes me sleepy. I love Chess game and it is surely turn based board game. But the fighting system doesn't impress me that much in this original FF7.

Please help me become motivated to play this "masterpiece". No sarcasm intended. Promise.

Not really (?) Even if I love this game, I agree with you graphics were outdated on launch day, and high resolution graphics and bilinear texturing does not help at all. The fighting system is not that good for the first 15 hours, it will be gradually better when you know more the game.

This game is a good light novell with some RPG battles (?)

Even though i dislike the action mechanics they put in modern Final Fantasies, i can put that aside as a matter of taste.

The best thing the original has over remakes is pacing, the remake is just filled with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ side content that's not fun and adds (mostly) ♥♥♥♥♥♥ new characters that are just annoying while the original keeps the story moving forward in a steady pace.

There's no need to force yourself to like a game you don't enjoy

I'm guessing that you're under 30 years old?
That's not a criticism, just a thought.
When it comes to graphics and what we as gamers consider playable and unplayable, varies per age group and generation.
I'm 36, for example, so the PSX/PS2-era of gaming are my Golden Years.

And so for people who are like 20 - 25, that would probably be PS3/Xbox 360-ish console generation-wise.

It's subjective/opinionated, differs per person. There is no fact in it.
Even I can openly admit that the game is slower paced and has not aged well graphically in the last 5 - 10 years by comparison of much more modern and advanced graphics and processing power.

My point being man, that if you can't finish it or can't get into it due to graphics, than that's actually kind of normal despite all of the criticism you might receive for your take on it.

Bottom line being my guy, don't take subjective and opinionated things too seriously.
It's not objectively factual like chemistry is. There is no exact science about an opinionated or subjective subject.
And if there's no exact science to it, than there's no reason to take it too seriously.

I'm not sure if your disinterest towards the game can be helped. Sometimes, it's simply not your cup of tea no matter how much people praise FFVII. But let's try. So you don't mind the graphics, but can't get into the battle system, right?

How far are you currently in the game? As previously said, the combat gets better with more room for customization as you advance in the game.

Do you find the story interesting? When I find a game's battle system uninteresting, usually the story is able to keep me motivated to continue playing.

So when there's a game I can't bring to play/enjoy myself I end up watching others play it and that gets me way way way more into it. Like, The Last of Us, I absolutely LOVED the story on that game, but I personally could NOT play it myself, just not my cup of tea at all.

I agree that remakes are filled with so much paddings. OG seems have indepth into it albeit being boring for newbies. Those who play remake first will definitely feel that way.

If my memory serves right, after the first boss fight, the one after the gang get off the train, it feels like a chore getting around the town, don't know what to do next, sure I can watch a tutorial but...that would mean some major spoilers.

I will be 27 this year. Kinda late for me to try these OG masterpiece. Guess I'm just forcing myself huh.

Still I wanna try to finish it but...I can't get hyped like in any games that I played. Mind you, I played and finish Resident Evil 2 OG. Sure it's a different genre but...why I was hyped about that game but not in FF7 OG? I played both remakes of the game.

After the first boss battle, when wondering around the Midgar I started to lose interest. Not the same that I felt in remake counterpart tho, if anything, Chapter 2 (or 3?) of Remake is boring as well but I got through it.

Bcoz I want to continue playing. Not that I'm complaining only like majority of newbies do, but I'm actually asking help to get motivated. I even planning to buy it on Switch.
