Icicle Area Safety Bit Island

It's impossible to complete the puzzle to return from the island. Am not sure if it's one my mods causing this or if it was like this in Vanilla, but it's legit impossible. The only way I can exit is to circle around & until I pass out. Not because there is no solution, there definitely is, but because Cloud just WON'T jump where I aim / look. There are two spots in particular where he will jump sideways or backwards rather than where I aim. I've managed to get past the first spot one twice out of thirty attempts, only to encounter another one a couple blocks further. Anyone experienced the same issue / have a clue as to root cause?

This is from my ff7 strategy guide....
you can only step on the large ice blocks so be careful.When you step on a block,all adjacent small blocks switch to large blocks and all large blocks switch to small blocks.If you get trapped on a block,you're forced to try again.
This is word for word,i managed it first time so perhaps a mod issue?
