No Steam Cloud Saves

Every Final Fantasy on steam has steam cloud saves except this one. :/

They should add it.

is there perhaps some technical reason for this or is it because they just couldn't be bothered?

I don't know, but FFVIII (both the original and remaster) has it, so I don't think it would be an issue.

The PC version of FF7 was a standalone CD ROM release that came out long before Steam was a thing, and Square Enix added their own online services for DRM and save transfers. Square Enix didn't bother changing things when they began selling it on Steam.

The servers are broken as often as not and it's a better experience to bypass that crap and use the 7H launcher instead, even if you're not actually using any mods. Just launching with it is better. It won't sync saves automatically, but it won't erase your save because the SE servers are having another stroke.

It's not a big deal to transfer your save on a USB or over the LAN.

I've been saving and loading just fine, with 40+ GB of mods installed. Are you 100% sure those aren't cloud saves? I've been running FF VII with "Steam Compatibility" enabled in 7H, though.
Did you enable cloud saves in your client's settings? Before anything else, make sure you did.

ive been using the cloud saves via the launcher, works fine for me. playing on 3 devices and have not had an issue

Yea. I see that there is an option for cloud saves in the FFVII launcher under Network settings. Unfortunately, I didn't have it enabled, so I will have to wait till I get back to my other device to enable it with my saves. Still, all the other FF games have steam cloud saves, which is what I'm used to since it's automatic through steam. Its weird that they don't enable it for this one too. If you look on the store page for any mainline FF, you'll see they all have the steam cloud feature listed except for this one and the MMOs.

Now I got back to the device where my saves were and enabled cloud saves in the FFVII launcher, but when I go in game and try to load my save, it says "Invalid save file!" for every save file.

So I disable the cloud saves in the launch and go into the game again and it still says "Invalid save file!"

So it messed up all my saves? This is why this game needs steam cloud...

So from searching it seems this is a common issue. Its sad that Square takes so little care of their old releases. These games continue to succeed and gain fans despite Square, not because of them.

I guess I'm starting over.
