Slow Battle Square Slots?
I’m trying to beat the Battle Square repeatedly for Omnislash; probably a bit earlier than recommended, but I can handle it just fine 8 out of 10 times (and 1 of the remaining 2 is a stupid skull boat ejecting me from the battle). That said, I’m not getting consistent BP rewards from my attempts.

I looked up any tips to help that part of the process specifically, and a guide using the PS buttons said you could slow the handicap reels down with Square to get ones that lead to better multipliers. I assume in Steam FF7 terms that’s Switch-have that in the same spot on the controller at the moment-and when I try it, it…removes the slot wheel from the screen entirely until I let go of the button. What’s going on, is this supposed to happen? Do I have the wrong input or something?

If the guide is using the PSX version, that menu is 60 FPS and easier to see than this version's, where everything in battle caps at 15 FPS. Pressing [switch] is meant to allow you to stop the wheel. So, if you stop it, then let go and press [confirm] then you should always get the selection you right after the one you pressed [switch] on. That's the idea.

This is still very possible in this version of the game, too (literally doing it as we speak, and with no mods or anything installed). Albeit, I recall it being a bit easier to time it properly on the PS1. Could be just my memory, but maybe it is also easier. Either way, it's not really all that difficult once you get used to it.

This applies to EVERY slot in the game, FYI, including Tifa's and Cait Sith's limit breaks. Tifa really becomes a powerhouse once she hits limit level 4 and then lands on nothing but "Yeah!!!" for each slot :wololo:

Oh yeah, I should also mention two things. 1. you have to press and hold the button. The longer you hold the button, the longer the slot stays stuck and then you can time it better, however...

2. the slot is actually hidden while you're holding down the button, so you have to memorize where the slot is about to hit and take that into account with your timing. Not too difficult once you get used to it, tho

Nope, what you're experiencing is normal. That's how it works.
You can slow slot rolls down, but at the cost of the invisibility.
The rolling of the slots actually pauses when you press the Switch button, or stops entirely if you hold it down (despite the sound effect).
If you "flicker" it a bit, you can gradually get a feel and reading on the order of the slots.

Depending on the slots, people have also screencapped the whole slot rolls (such as with Cait Sith's limit break and Tifa's limit break).

I never really got the hang of slots.
I got good enough to land Tifa's hits for Final Heaven, but never enough for Cait Sith's limit or the Battle Square.
The way I dealt with the Battle Square was level grinding to be able to handle it.d
And as for Omnislash, if I'm overpowered enough by Disc 2, than I'll just skip out on it and deal with Meteor Rain/Finishing Touch and get Omnislash later on Disc 3/Part 3 because it's cheaper in Disc 3/Part 3 than it is on Disc 2/Part 2 when it first becomes available.

I've had that approach pretty much since I was in my teens.
I, sadly burned out my old CRT in my teens from playing FF7 that much.
I also went through 2 of the original Playstation's that way as well.

Funny, guides I found said the discount was only from Disc 1 to Disc 2, no price drop from 2 to 3. Ah well, I already have it now; in fact, I’ve since beaten FF7 for the first time, with all achievements.

Though, speaking of the original PS1 version, I did get a copy of that along with my Steam version years ago…and they were both cursed. Steam because my laptop was crap that could barely run Word, and the original because the disc was damaged and caused serious problems. Not sure if increased load times were just part of that version or not, but a specific issue was that it couldn’t load the Beat Rush animation, so trying to use Tifa’s Limit Break would softlock the game.
