This port sucks
PS3 controller not fully supported, you can't use the D pad or shoulder buttons, and some other buttons are wrong

Although all of it is true, I agree that it is still indefensible for Square to not update the Steam release with X-input support. Back in 2013 they tweaked the PC version for compatibility with modern operating systems, using Aali's driver, I believe. Then they should've also addressed its controller support issue. This version of the game is not equal to the 1998 PC port.

this game came out before ps3 controllers, i thought that was pretty common knowledge

...and then it was ported to pc and then to steam

also with the exception of the analogue sticks THE BUTTONS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME

I don't disagree, but i knew what i was getting before i purchased the game.

It sure would be nice to get an update, but that's just me stating the obvious.

True, but the weird part is that it already got updates, and they didn't include x-input support.

tin foil hat, but maybe they wanted less people playing it and buying the remake instead

If that were the case, they would've de-listed this version of FF7 like they did with the old versions of FF1, 2, 5 and 6 when the Pixel Remasters came out.

I can't see that working, tbh. Why would anyone buy a remake of a bad game?

Then again, nothing these companies do makes sense to me. Judging interest for a new installment by releasing a collection and seeing how it sells. Uh... Why would not rebuying a bunch of games I already own imply not wanting something new? If anything, they should be greenlighting if the collection fails.

I have a PS1/PS2 USB controller adapter.

It doesn't matter that much except for mini games, and there are a lot of mini games in FF7.

I have to press square for the menu instead of triangle, and L3 for select, it's all wrong. How can they charge money for this crap?

problems like square bringing up menu can be fixed by rebinding the inputs from the binding config in the game's launcher. it's annoying but it only takes a couple of minutes to fix.

It doesn't work, can you be any more patronising please? I'm not mental.

No, I'm questioning the logic of wrecking the original to make people want to buy the remake. If you make them think the original sucked, why would they want to buy the remake?

This isn't a FFVII issue, this is a WIndows issue. Sony=/ microsoft. Windows doesn't provide the drivers for the controllers. they have always had issues.

you can use a program called SCPToolKit to have a PS3 controller mapped as if it is a 360 controller or if you have a ps4/5 controller you can use DS4Windows. DS4Windows may actually work for a PS3 controller as well.

or just get a 360/ XBone controller. even a PS4 controller works more often. i had trouble with it on windows 7, but 10 and updates to steam seems to have fixed that.

A PS4 controller works fine.

PS...3 controller? you're seriously complaining that a controller that was never actually meant to natively work with PC in the first place doesn't work right with a PC game? Some gamers are genuinely delusional about how programming works, and about whether their old *** tech should even be able to work in the ways they're trying to use it. Get a modern Xbox for windows controller, they're far better controllers anyways and they're actually designed to work with PC out of the box.

And as others have mentioned, PS4 controller also works fine. Can confirm that from when I had one.
