Windows 10 + Xbox One Controller
Hi all,

I'm unable to play the game with my Xbox One Controller.
When I start up the game I get to the screen where the keyboard buttons are displayed but I cannot get past this screen, pressing 'X' on my keyboard does nothing and I tried pressing all the buttons on my gamepad but nothing works. I can hoewever change the gamepad buttons when I go to Settings > Joystick in the launcher without any issues but when I launch the game none of the buttons work.
When I unplug my controller I can get past this 'keyboard' screen by pressing x on my keyboard.

So how can I play this game using my Xbox One Controller?

This game worked without any issues in the past using my Xbox 360 controller but that died and I've been using the Xbox One Controller since (my Xbox One Controller works fine for my other games).

Edit: I tried the 'XBox 360 Controller Fix' mod but as I suspected this doesn't work with my Xbox One controller.

- unplugg your controller
- start Final Fantasy VII
- press "X" on your keyboard at the "keyboard" screen
- plugg in your controller

Should* work this way (:

Hello Tinvai,

Sadly it doesn't work, I can get past the 'keyboard' screen in the beginning with Xone controller unplugged but when I plug it back it it won't work, I'm able to keep playing with keyboard at that point though but yeah I want to use my gamepad.

@ Ibitato

I'm not sure that program will actually be able to help me because the game detects my controller, in the launcher of the game I can remap the buttons on my controller as well.

And if the program would emulate my controller as keyboard buttons I don't think it will work because the game refuses to even let me continue with my keyboard buttons when I launch the game with my controller plugged in.

then try selecting the game exe and configure compatibiluty for windows 7

Update:

Your method seems to work now Tinvai.
I ended up deleting the game and redownloading it, i've had messed around with multiple settings files and tried all kinds of player created patches and mods and stuff so no doubt something was wrong with that as well.

Hoewever in my case I have to start the game with my controller plugged in, I have to press the A button to skip the intro thing and go to that keyboard screen.
> Unplug controller
> Alt tab out of game & tab back in (otherwise keyboard buttons still don't work)
> Press x and keep using keyboard to navigate and load my safe file, once that is loaded I can plug controller back in and play with it this way.

But bit thanks to you, thank to your methord I've tried it around a bit and without it I would have never thought of trying something like that. :)

Still, if anybody knows any kind of mod or fix in how I can get my Controller to work in the game without this workaround then please share it. :)

looks like they have to modify their poor controller support with newer operating systems

Another way to fix it is to use the old Windows 8.1 drivers for the xbone controller, instead of the built-in Windows 10 drivers, it's similar to the issue FF13 and 13-2 has with the xbone controller.

This is what i have to do each time. but it works for myself.

*Start the game up with the controller connected

*Press any button on the controller to skip the intro's

*Disconnect the controller at the controls screen - then press X on the keyboard.

*Next reconnect the controller and play.

so far the best solution ive come up with is uninstalling windows update KB3140768 and use microsofts own tool wushowhide.diagcab to hide/block the system from installing it. then it works as it used to. perfect.

link for the tool https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

uninstalling update: win - settings - update & security - advanced options - view your update history - uninstall updates - right click on KB3140768 - uninstall

not sure should you run the tool before or after restart so i ran it both times.

when using the tool , click on the advanced and uncheck apply repairs automatically - Hide Updates and check on the KB3140768

if you wish to revert this run the tool again and take the 'show hidden updates' route

hope this helps

For f*ck sake, how hard can it be implementing proper controller support ? It would take an intern 3 hours to do... I'm completely unable to launch a game, I've been trying for the last 15 minutes without success, and I'm not installing older drivers. F*ck Square Enix and their half a*sed PC ports.
