stuck at keyboard screen

Can some help please, I have loaded final fantasy VII and im stuck at the keyboard screen, I have pressed, X, numpad 5, normal 5, tried a different keybind, tried to run in Admin.. Re-Installed, restarted PC.
Im now stuck on what to do :-(

Steam -> library -> right-click on Final Fantasy VII -> properties -> Verify cache integrity
If this doesn't help, reset the controls via deleting "ff7input.cfg" - can be found in: C:\Users\%USER%\Documents\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY VII

I had this problem. It's due to a Microsoft security update. Can't remember which one exactly but it begins with a K. Just check the date for the most recent and uninstall it

ya i tried this as well and uninstalling almost bricked my pc, then windows just redownloaded the stupid update anyways. If your using a controller unplug it until you get into the game then plug it back in since microsoft doesnt care about fixing this major issue

found the issue, I had the game controller plugged in however I un-plugged this was able to press X then plug the controller back in to play the game :-)

I just ran into this problem. It is so annoying that delevopers release games with these issues and NEVER fix them.

Just downloaded and ran into this issue, had no controller plugged in but I immediately changed the layout of the keys, cause for some reason they have no clue how people use computers... but I got stuck, and the solution I used was resetting to the default control scheme in the launcher, I'll change it after I create a save file.

I figured it out, press x on your keyboard not your controller! super weird bug tho
