Getting the Gold Chocobo Without Racing
So I came across a video that has a way to obtain the gold chocobo without the tedious racing aspect. I have done this and it totally works. The racing method was annoying and now its done in half the time or even less!!! So what are you waiting for? Get the gold chocobo and get the most overpowered summon in the Final Fantasy series.

Seems a fairly standard reset RNG strat. Perfect for getting Knights of the Round. But not very helpful for chocobo racing to get Sneak Attack etc.

You can also beat the ruby weapon and get a gold chocobo. :P

^^ The Gold Chocobo from Ruby is a terrible racing Chocobo.

I myself have done a LOT of testing with the field RNG and Chocobo Breeding, not to try to get a Gold without racing as such, but to try to get the absolute best racing Chocobo possible in the shortest amount of steps. There are a ton of variables, and it isn't easy. I will finalise that project at some point.

Would be interesting to see what can influence it. I usually give all my chocobo's 99 Sylkis greens and race them all to top class, or at least A for the first 1 or 2 (off memory it can be hard for the first chocobo).

I imagine other than that it is just about RNG.

Does anybody know what the top stat is for a chocobo? I think 999 stamina is easy enough but what is max speed?
DynamixDJ May 31, 2016 @ 5:37am
99 Sylkis Greens, eh? You do know that 9 is all it takes to max out speed? Yes you will gain Stamina and intelligence too, but they will max out of their own accord eventually. 9 Sylkis per Chocobo is all you need.

MDash maxes out at 6000. It is divided by 34 to get 176 KPH. You cannot see the MRun value (max running speed), but that maxes out at 5900, or 173 KPH.

Feeding Greens will increase Dash to MDash, and Run to MRun. The only way to increase MDash and MRun is by breeding. Before breeding, talk to Chloe, and make a note of the fastest runner and sprinter (make sure it is one of the parents you're about to breed). After breeding, talk to her again, if the newborn does not have either faster Dash or Run than its parents, reset and start again.

Lol. Reset. There is a world of explaining to do just with resets. If you're hard resetting, make sure to run in and out of the stables to the pen area one more time than the previous attempt; everytime you run into the pen area the RNG marker advances by 2.

I knew 99 was too much but not by how many. This was my 17 year old PS1 strat to be fair!

Cool note on resetting the RNG. I'll probably never do this, but it's interesting to know.

Just to clarify, a Hard Reset (which consists of closing down the application completely, or in the case of the PS1 resetting the console) will reset the RNG to 0. A soft reset will keep the RNG where it is.... from your last save, or from the point of resetting? This I do not know, which is why I always play it safe and Hard Reset.

I do know that with the PS4 version, a soft reset will reset the RNG to 0.

Indeed from the tone of his post however he finds the racing aspect tedious. So defeating the Ruby Weapon is an easy* method to gain a gold chocobo without having to do the tedious racing.

*Easy is very subjective here, I couldn't do it without KOTOR which you can only obtain AFTER the GC

Which makes that gold chocobo a catch 22.

You need the Gold Chocobo to get KOTR, and you need KOTR to get the Gold Chocobo!

Well you don't NEED it, I've seen other people do it with B.Zero and Quadra summon.

But yes.. It is a ♥♥♥♥♥, and if he thinks racing is tedious.. lol
