Obwohl das D-Pad woanders liegt, fehlt trotzdem im Spiel der nötige Treiber.
Das kann leider nicht behoben werden.
I will be more then happy to post how to do it if someone actually requests it. Anyone can update this thread at any time and I will see their message. Even in a year from now.
Honestly, I don't think anyone cares though. I am going to assume that with a gamepad designed for the PC, the D-Pad will just work.
Also, are their any PC gamepads out there where the D-Pad uses four distinct buttons (like the Playsation 3 D-Pad) instead of a disc shape?
About the D-Pad 8 vs 4 directions I'm not sure. Both function the same but I'm guessing you find it easier to not misclick or better feeling to have only the 4 directions directly touchable. If you are wanting to disable the diagonal directions the software may allow this, but if it is for the prior...
Astro C40 TR (mainly for PS4 but also has its own PC Windows software to support it, but it is expensive $199 as it is basically comparable to the Xbox Elite controller).

Also Razer Wolverine Ultimate and SteelSeries Stratus Duo
There are other options if you need, too, with a bit of searching.
I prefer the D-Pad the way the Playstation 3 is (with four distinct buttons) because I keep accidentally moving diagonally with disc shaped D-Pads. Or as you said, I misclick.
Can you tell us how you solved it?
1. Go into Big Picture mode in Steam. The button to do this is on the top right.
2. Click Library, then click Games on the left side, then click Filter Games on the right. Type Final Fantasy VII in the search to bring up your copy of the game and click on it.
3. Click Manage Game on the left side
4. Click Controller Configuration
5. Now along the bottom you see rectangular windows that point to various parts of the game controller. You likely only need to change the window that points to the D-Pad but I changed most of them to the following configuration. Do NOT change the one for the four buttons A, B, X, and Y. Leave that rectangular window alone. Click on the other rectangle windows and change "style of input" to "Joystick Move". You can try just the one pointing to the D-Pad if you want. Either way, when you are done with that, click DONE to lock in those changes and that should be it.
6. To get out of Big Picture mode, keep clicking ESC until you are back at the main window. Hit the button right next to the clock in the upper right and click Exit Big Picture in the menu.
I hope this works for you. If it doesn't, it may not work for me in the future on another computer. But as of right now, my controller works the way I want it to in FFVII - which is with the D-Pad!
