FFVII not playing on Windows 10.
Alright, so I was all excited when my download and installation of the game was all set to go, but when I went to play it, nothing. I can't even get passed the opening credits with the keyboard, and when I use the controller, it goes on, however.... It gets stuck on the keyboard control screen and will NOT go beyond. No matter what I try. I've been at it for hours, currently midnight and I need to get myself ready for bed. I got another early day starting up, in just a few hours. Need that sweet shower, before classes. 4:30, wake time.

I'll add this: The controller is a LogitechGamepad, F310. It also will not allow me to config the controls via the settings, either. I've tried. And if it helps with getting any of you to help me out with this, my laptop came running Windows 10. What to do? Please help!

Thanks, and good night.

I downloaded FF7 last night its working fine on Windows 8 and above. I thought I had the same problem but you have to press the X key on your keyboard to access the game. I wouldn't know how to add the controller as I'm using the keyboard.
Hope this helps :)

As I say, it didn't work last night either. Have not tried it yet, today. I got a few pointers from my friend here, so I'll try those out and if nothing, I'll get back to you.

Alright, so what my friend told me earlier today did not work. I also found out a desktop shortcut won't appear. Not sure if that is normal, for FFVII.

I have the same controller and once you start up the game you have to press x at the controls screen and then press the mode button on the controller.
I had the same problem at first but I did that and it works now

So what exactly have you tried so far? I mean no point me repeating if you've already tried whatever people may suggest, so that might help us trying to look in to the matter.

I'm only assuming now, but the first thing you tried after you noticed it isn't working, was without the controller? If the game won't progress even then, then you could try rebinding the keys before you actually start the game (make sure no controller is turned on/plugged in when launching the game). My game did the same thing just hanging in that control layout screen, but after I changed it, it started working for whatever reason.

Also to make sure when it comes to controller support, you'll start the game by having your controller turned on/plugged in before you actually open the game launcher
-> press play from the launcher
-> unplug/turn off the controller
-> press X (or whatever it's bound on) from the keyboard during control layout screen
-> game continues and you'll turn on/plug in the controller again and continue as normal.
At times I might have to navigate the saves with the keyboard too for whatever reason, not sure why mine does that.

As you mentioned that you can't actually rebind the buttons for the controller in the launcher screen, do you have access to any other controller that you could try? I only have experience with Xbox controllers (360/One), so sadly I don't know if there are specific modes for your controller to make it work. At times some keyboards acts as a controller so some driver compatibility issues happen, but if you use your laptop's own keyboard, it shouldn't be the case this time.

If the case is that the game doesn't recognize your gamepad at all no matter what you tried and there isn't any other controllers you could try it with, then you could try using some program to emulate your gamepad as Xbox360 controller. Might have been called as 'x360ce' or something like that, not 100% sure as haven't used it myself. Someone wiser than me needs to guide you with that topic unless you already have experience with that stuff.

Still nothing. It seems to regognize it, because I push A, and it goes straight to the Keyboard directional screen. But, after this point, nothing. No matter what I do. And sometimes, it won't even go to that screen, just starts rolling the credits with the music, and then goes back to the Eidos screen. This is starting to get really annoying.

And I'm ticked. Due to 6 hours of "play" where it's only been my failed attempts at getting to game to work, I cannot get my damn bloody refund. Worse thing, EVER. They seriously need to fix this crap, whatever the issue is. It's ridiculous.

Hmmm. I'm using the same controller on win10 and FF7 works fine for me. My F310 is set to "X". Also, are you using the in-game config or the settings from the small launch screen thingy? On that go Settings> Joystick and set your controls from there. My resoloution is set to 1280x768 60 Hz in windowed mode (although I don't think running it in windowed mode or not makes any difference). Also on the keyboard setting screen, just hit the X key on the keyboard to get past it. Keep a cool head! :steamhappy:

On Windows 10, go to your Control Panel.

Click on Devices and Printers.

Find your controller in the Devices list and Right Click.

Select Game Controller settings.

Select "Advanced..." on the window that pops-up.

Set your Default device to use with older programs to your controller.

Start FFVII, get past the keyboard control scheme page by pressing X, and enjoy using your controller.

Then I suggest you take a screenshot of what you are looking at, because those are step-for-step instructions on how to get games like FFVII to recognize your controller.

Trekari Jul 30, 2016 @ 4:02pm
I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to get Steam to allow me to upload a screenshot of my desktop showing the windows and fields I've mentioned and it won't let me.

If you follow those instructions, you should end up exactly where you need to be in order to make it work. I wrote them as I did it myself on my Windows 10 PC.
