tch... beta is decent enough but it's too expensive on mp it's a style you do you, that's 3 casts per ether and potentially jeopardize your emergency heal. besides you get aqualung way earlier anyway and by the time you get beta fire2-all is already on par, even trine is almost half the mp to similar effect, beta looks cool tho i guess
big guard is an entirely different league you shouldn't even bring that up here
i still stand by what i said about elemental, it's hella expensive to level up but easily carries till end game, faithful to every boss fight, for 1 slot either in armor or weapon that's hella flexible, that either saves your fight or turn the table offensively completely lopsided. hojo? elemental poison attacks heal me. Gi cave boss? heal me with fire possession.
elemental is sick, but it's so setup specific that you'll unlikely utilize it first time playing without knowing, which kinda defeats the purpose of an RPG lol
pretty sure you get only 1 tetra elemental the whole game and it's really late, wasn't that in gelnika? i forget, by then you're dealing with emerald weapon lol wtf
if you bring up another enemy skill i ain't even gonna talk to you lol, it's like saying an F1 car is better than my yaris well no sh*t captain obvious lol
but i don't drive a yaris just saying lol
You can morph Cactuars on the island for more Tetra Elemental once you get Highwind. I'll just link the location for the wiki because you might have issues finding the super small island, otherwise. https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Cactus_Island
Beta uses 35 MP so it isn't too bad. By the time you get it you should be able to cast it 3-5x on just Cloud, alone, at level 12~20, and far more as you level. I usually get beta before passing the Marsh, presonally, but otherwise most people probably will get Aqualung first as you say. You mention worrying about health but the best defense is a great off- I mean enemy being dead. :P They can't hurt you if they die instantly.
About Fire 2 vs Beta... Beta has 3.375x spell power multiplier while Fire 2 has 1.25x spell power multiplier (so less than 50% of the strength) on a single target. Fire 2 when paired with All materia and cast on multi-target will reduce dmg is reduced further by 33% while Beta is not reduced despite being an AoE. Fire 2 is a bit cheaper but it isn't actually relevant at that MP cost, especially for the sheer performance difference. This type of issue is kind of why Beta makes even Aqualung, summons (except Choco/Mog, which can paralyze even bosses even early into game), and magic look bad.
Big Guard is pretty absurd. At least in FF9 it cost a ridiculous amount of MP and FF8 it was a limit break. No idea what they were thinking in FF7 with it. I only mention it cause Big Guard + HP Plus is straight dumb and breaks the game giving you 20,000 (okay actually 19,998) EHP even in disc 1. >.<
Elemental is cool for the cave boss if you don't know how to 1 shot it with items due to being undead. That was probably one of the cooler use cases. Unfortuantely, fights are too short and boss dmg too low for me to need it. They really needed to buff bosses in the OG. FF9 had a similar issue with bosses being too weak (not dmg but health of bosses being crazy low and getting 1-2 shot if you setup right). I like the idea of elemental, and it is great in the remake, it just kind of fell flat along with everything else (summons, except Choco/Mog, Hades, KotoR for specific fights but mainly Choco/mog boss paralyze, or magic which was underwhelming but cool looking, etc.). Its neat if you're doing a no enemy skill run.
I also wish some of the cooler command and blue/purple materia showed up before basically the end of the game as there is some cool combinations but its all right before the end making it kind of pointless while the earlier stuff gets trumped by Enemy Skill. Such a bummer.
Fun fact since you brought up ATB active. Summons and any super long spell is really really bad on that setting vs bosses since bosses get priority and will get a turn between every action since their ATB will refill. :( I like ATB active, though, since I don't use summons aside from Choco/Mog (which paralyzes them anyways). It is my preferred mode so my characters can charge during each other's and the bad guy's attacks.
Listen, did I forget to mention Bad Brea-
I mean Hades, totally Hades, for causing massive status effects on the enemies?
Actually though, Hades is a neat one its too bad its gotten super late. I wish status effects were more meaningful against enemies in FF games in general, aside from paralyze/stop in most cases.
I just bought the original game. Let's see how it goes.
Wow I can change the characters name. That is cool 😎
make sure his name clout, not cloud
Well, i change Cloud to Diamond. Isn't that cool? XD
If you stagger Bahamut before he can charge and finish countdown for Megaflare then he has to start over with the countdown. As long as you kill him before he ever finishes counting down he will not get a chance to use it, especially if you burst him hard with magic. If he was at 15% when he summoned Ifrit, who he should have summoned at around 50%, then you were doing so much dmg so fast he probably didn't have time to cast Megaflaare lol
Anyway, I came back here to thank u. Your tips especially using magnify + manawall saved me from a lot of retries coz each boss' final attack can kill the entire party. Lol
