New Threat bug Whirlwind Maze spoilers?

Fighting Jenova in the Whirlwind Maze before Jenova turns into Jenova (trying to avoid spoilers) at the beginning of the battle sometimes the battle just stops. Sometimes it stops and sometimes it's fine.
The problem is if it stops then I reset it and try the fight again 100% the screen will load the fight and then go black.
I'm not aware of any 'New Threat' help areas and Google just brings up discussions for vanilla.
Any suggestions?

I found a work-around. It seemed to be when I used Tifa to cast haste-all the fight would lock up so I didn't cast it.
I didn't like this work-around but I managed to make it work.
