Why is magic so overpowered?
For instance, when I use Cloud, the sword tends to do about 40 damage, and a lightning bolt does about 110. (You'd think a character who carries a sword that big would be designed to get more damage from it!) Is there a compelling reason for me not to just jam Materia into every available slot and spam magic?

tested that as well thinking that might be what was meant, its also not the case. i got beta'd, got the message in battle of getting beta, ran, and still had beta. did the same with white wind, just in case it was a quirk unique to bet due to the fact that youd best be running the first time you encounter a zolom.

That's weird. It totally works like that for me. Are you running the game stock?

for the most part. texture mods and damage limit break since all the story mods in 7th heaven are complete trash (im looking at you new threat). nothing that would mess with the way calculations are done or scripts.

After doing a fresh install, I got into a fight with Touch Me. I learnt Frog Song from them, and cast it on them. Then I ran away from the battle and the skill was gone. I believe you might have modded your game and that is one of the changes implemented. I know it is possible as it will be one of the changes in the next iteration of the Reunion mod.
for that to be the case id actually have to have installed one of those mods. i havent.

I don't know what is happening, King. That's how the game works here and it is a fresh install.

I have my game modded up the whazoo. Textures, story mods, etc. and e-skill still works the same as a fresh install. xD

Magic is most powerful toward the beginning of the game, and physical attacks dominate the end.

woot? pretty sure 2x summon linked with master summon along with knights of round linked with MP-turbo on 1 char and mimic on all chars is what dominates the end...

pretty sure i've beaten ruby weapon in 4-6 rounds that way, was an easy win :D

That requires extensive grinding

I think he meant towards the end of the "main game", where things like 4x Cut and the limit breaks will probably be doing more damage than most magic you have by then just playing "normally", without spending dozens more hours maxing out materia
who wouldn't wanna grind out 8 max knights of round during endgame i mean come on xd

Grind out 8 X summon and 8 knights of the round, it really makes it boring but extremely easy.

linking KOTR with quadra magic does nothing.

do you mean w-summon? do multiple w-summons stack?
even if it did stack, that's way too op and not worth my time, or anyone's for that matter

Exactly ones finite the other is not

I beat the game a few weeks ago, if that matters anymore.

that's nothing as it goes for the gap in the beginning, when your chars are dealing 150-200 per hit and maybe 500 with summoning, it should be possible to get the enemy skill "beta" from midgar solom, which deals about 1250 damage. Granted, getting that enemy skill very early in the game may take a few attempts, but it makes the game early on redicilously easy, as it oneshots all normal mobs and bosses die in 2-5 casts.
