PS4 Controller not working
I already checked if the controller works and it does, the problem is: when i open the launcer the controller DOES work, i even managed to remap it in the controller settings menu, but when i click on play, the controller stays On but for some reason, the game just ignores it, i know that on the first menu where the game tells you the keyboard keys it supposedly doesn't work, but in my case it just never works, i tried turning on DS4 Windows thinking that it might have worked, but still the same problem, i tried most fixes except for the XPadder one since i don't want to spend money to play something that i have already bought.
Can someone help? I was really looking forward to play this game.

I think there will be conflict with in game key configuration, if you saw this screen below picture after you skip those opening (I think B keyboard is default as START), best screenshot or jot it down so you can configure the buttons in-game according to your steam controller configuration.

You may want to look through your controller settings on Steam Big Picture Mode. The dpad also doesn't work if you're using a DS4, so that would have to be remapped via steam as well.

Thanks for the help, although it took a long time to get it to work since for some reason Steam wouldn't let me change some of the keys, it eventually worked after i changed the default layout, copied it, and saved it as a new configuration, thanks again for the help, i didn't even know Steam had this tool since i just recently restarted using Steam after a long time of inactivity.

Your welcome. In case if you have FF8, just apply in steam controller configuration is enough.

Is this also the case with the PS5 controller? I have one, and despite InputMapper and fiddling around with other settings, I have yet to make it actually work.

It could be, i've seen people with similar problems even when they had controllers from other consoles, try doing it and see if it works for you too, if it doesn't you can just delete the customized controller layout afterwards or deactivate it

You can use the customized controller in the same way with PS5, but just heads-up that FF7 configuration is a bit messy. As long as you can bypass the opening cutscene and entered the game, you can just do the configuration in-game similar to the steam controller configuration. For me, it's just safer to have steam controller configuration.
