Probably came up during testing because some players put all their stuff on one side of the team and left others with nothing, making a fight much harder.
Pressing switch will remove all the materia so you can open your menu and equip it to a character thats about to fight to make it easier.
You best map your controller well and learn those buttons as this comes up a lot later on for specific minigames.
TLDR: Switch is a button bound to something on your pad
This is the correct answer. The Switch button on PC is the Square button from original FF7 on PS1, or whatever the equivalent is on an Xbox or Nintendo controller. On keyboard I think it's the Del key on numpad. I have no idea why it's called the Switch button lol
