How to get past fire in Wutai Mountains?

I'm in Wutai, and when I try to progress into the mountains there is a big flame, blocking my path.
I've tried to look this up, but I just get stuck in a mess of side missions I don't know which ones correlate to the main quest. I know its something about a submarine or something?
Pls help me

There is a sunken plane in the ocean that you will have access to once you have the submarine. Inside that plane, there is a room with a key item called "Leviathan Scale". You need this to get past the fire. I hope this helped :)

What the above person said. Mind you, the reward is not particularly worth much unless aiming for all achievements. It has a weapon that is quite subpar to Yuffie's next best weapon, her ultimate weapon, which is a particularly unique and thus special ultimate weapon even among the ultimate weapons. It also has the steal materia you pair with others to steal with X paired materia's action but that is honestly kind of moot in this game so its really only useful for materia achievement.

The Leviathan Scales are actually right before you enter the submarine, on the left side of the screen. There are other items in the sunken plane, but not the scales needed to get the Oritsuru from the Wutai mountain.

^Oh I missed the plane part mentioned and thought he just meant when you get access to the submarine. Yeah, as Apollo says and that means it is missable as it is a one time only location just before the submarine.

It's part of the main story, you'll come across it when you progress far enough into the game.
Just remember to grab all the chests in that area before you board the Submarine.

There are some really good items there including one of only 2 triple growth weapons in the game.
If you don't pick them up then and there you won't be able to get them again on that save.
