restoring midi music?
I have a sound canvas VST that i'd like to try out on this game. I also have an SC-55 coming in the mail. I'd like to try out both in this game. Is there any way to restore the midi music or switch to it from the updated psx music?

ive tried running the ff7 game converter and running ff7config.exe to select my midi device. it works fine in the config window but after launching the game i get no music.

Open ff7opengl.cfg and uncomment the vgmstream plugin with a # before it.

I actually removed the entire line and tried commenting it out already and it's still not playing midi. am i launching the wrong exe or something?

edit: ok nvm I got it working. I have no idea what I did differently this time but I just started over from scratch and reinstalled ff7 and ran the game converter and it magically started working.

edit2: actually now that I have this working does any one have an opinion on the settings? I dunno if they actually used a sound canvas module to compose the music or not... Any one care to suggest if I should be using the General Midi or Yamaha Midi? or what sound module mode? or if I should be using a sc55,sc88, etc?

edit3: ok so im pretty sure the reason it wasnt working the first time is because i was using the reunion mod r06 and it replaces all the audio in the game. wasnt there a version that allowed you pick which mods from reunion you want to install. picking custom installation doesnt seem to let you pick which mods you want. I could of swore you used to be able to pick and choose.

Hello,it is an old thread but I have the answer.
FF7 musics were composed on a Roland SC-88 pro :)

How did you enable FF7 music through midi, please ?
I do not understand this part : "and ran the game converter"

Would you be so kind to explain, please ?

The 7th Heaven mod manager was originally built for an older physical release of FF7, so when using it for the Steam version, the file system is rearranged and a dummy .iso mounted to match the older release before the assets can be tweaked or overwritten with modded assets.

I see :) thank you, I'll try to see how 7th heaven works with the new steam version and if I can play the game with midi musics through my SC-88.
