Chocobo Racing Problem

This game originally did a poor job of their Chocobo raising/breeding system in that the racing part is pretty damn necessary. Now it's very hard to win without using the near-infinite stamina cheat (by holding all 4 shoulder buttons). The game broke some of the AI racers to have unbeatable stats that require you either lose or use the cheat that was put in to circumvent the mistake. Is there anything that might replicate the cheat or mods/trainers that might let me get past this tedium?

Even trying my damnedest to map the buttons to their corresponding locations on my controller doesn't seem to do the trick and I need to get me some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chocobo-only materia.

You can use black chocobo to edit your save and get a gold chocobo, which should be good enough to get you at least 2nd every race.

As far as I know, as long as you're in S rank (or even A?), you don't need to get first place to get the materias, you can get them if you place lower

Figured it out, changed the button mapping to have what would have been L2 and R2 to register when pressing the joysticks (not button options on back when ff7 was originally released), turned out to work but didn't seem like at at first when I was racing to escape gold saucer prison event..

lol, or race better. Teioh is not unbeatable. He has higher stats than you but races like a dumb AI. Chill out in the beginning, catch him up in the middle, and blast him out toward the end. It's not that hard. You should never not get first place. It's an easy minigame bud.

Stamina regeneration is a crutch for bad jockeys.

Odds are you are trying to Dash too much, which is a waste of Stamina.

You should Accelerate to your top running speed so that you slowly use stamina over the course of the race and only Dash when you are near the end and have excess stamina.

If you need stamina regeneration, either you or your chocobo just aren't cut out for that racing class.

Easiest way to beat the black chocobo is to keep doing the short race with a gold chocobo with max stamina.

From there, don't sprint. Watch the black one closely, try to memorize its path on the track.

Sprint just a tad bit, just to get in front of him, and then lay off the sprint. Try to keep yourself in front of him, and he'll push you along the way.

Once you get to the bridge just before the slow space room, sprint ahead across the entire bridge and through the space room through the finish line.

You should just barely beat him but it should be consistent enough to repeat once you get the hang of it.

Tantal Greens, Breed more generations. ♥♥♥♥ I figured this out in 97 on playstation under the age of 10. Kids these days are useless.

Teioh is the only Ai that requires manual driving to beat. a good enough Bird and Auto will take everyone else out

You can get a Gold Chocobo through RNG manipulation in the original. It's very well documented.
