The sick man in the slums.... plans to develop character in the remake?
In the original final fantasy VII there is a man in the slums near Aeris/Aerith's house who is sick and living inside what appears to be a giant pipe. Legend has it that this was one of the first Sephiroth clones you encounter in the game, and that would explain why he is no longer there after you revisit midgar later in the game. This is only slightly true...

From what I've read and what you can exploit in the games code is that there are some extra dialogue boxes with this guy (albeit they are blank) and even a set of weapons and that pesky empty character slot after a certain part of the game.... I would Imagine that the weapon he could equip is that masamune you get from the blacksmith near the gold saucer (that nobody can equip)... this also leads me to think they had some idea of the sick man turn into the physical manifestation of whatever good remained of Sephiroth?

Personally I would love to see Square-Enix dive deeper in with the "sick man in the pipe" this time. What are your thoughts?

There are no extra text boxes associated with him. He uses text 1, that field only has the label, his dialogue and a short script between cloud and aeris. He appears no where else in the field script, even in the "removed" scenes. There are no unused weapons. every character has 16 weapons and the Masamune weapon, which is only equippable by sephiroth in the kernel. There also isnt an empty character slot, if i am remembering correctly thats just extra space left in the exe. Sephiroth shares a character id with vincent and young cloud shares with Cait sith. If there was actually an extra slot it would have been used for one of them.

Those are the facts about this games code, even if you ignore the in game dialogue saying someone saw him leave the games files give 0 doubt that he was only meant to be an unimportant npc.

I understand this NPC maybe a Hojo experiment couse it's numered, but I feel clumsy assume this is a dump Sephirot clone like Cloud, even if it's a fact that Cloud is a Sephirt Clone, there's a script in Highwind removed from the main game talking about Cloud being sourced by Sephirot, it leaves think everything said from Cloud may be a mix from Sephirot-Zack tales. You should assume that man's with cape in Northern Cave maybe Cetra's following Jenova's bait, even that Cloud maybe atract originally by Jenova couse it maybe a failed Ifalna clone that was really attempting to do but kepping made males instead of females (that 99% accuracy problem that Hojo allusions to Shinra), or anything. Dirge of Cerberus Sephirot is breed inside Lucrecia. Also Hojo is trying to clone Red XII. So this guy can be anything.

He's a clone, just like those hooded figures in nibelheim and the whirlwind maze.He has a "2" on his hand.
If you go back later in the game, a guy will mention that those hooded guy's came and left with him, muttering something about a reunion

the blank text boxes are found in an encounter in the debug room. I watched some silly youtube video about this character and it showed the blank text boxes? but maybe it was just a nice edit for more clicks. as for the empty slot I was saying the slot aeris character leaves after she croaks but didnt wanna be too spoilery in the post in case some kids out there are new to the game.

I know Sephiroth's weapon is the masamune, but why would they go through the trouble of making a whole sidequest to obtain that weapon later in the game if it was never intended to be used by a member of your own party?

Maybe the "guy that are sick" dies sometime after you leave Midgar? That may be a theory too. But the fact that nobody says anything about him, only shows what a guy said above, he's not a important npc, plot wise. Maybe he was put there to say that sickness is afflicting the citizens?

I'm pretty sure his only purpose is to show that he was another sephiroth clone. He has no other purposes in game wise.
Lore wise, who knows. He could have an entire backstory but we'll never know because he's not an important npc in the game or story.
