If I put Lightning and Elemental materia together would my sword attack have a lightning bonus to it?

it would deal lightning damage if it was equiped to your weapon, if it was equipped to your armor then it would make lightning attacks deal less or no damage to you

There is only a bonus if the target is weak to lightning. The materia orbs need to be in linked slots if you want any results.

Yes. Using Command combinations is better. Those are the yellow materia orbs. Magic materia used with support orbs can heal certain enemies. Having special attacks attached is better.

Fun fact, the game has a hidden element (which was apparently "supposed" to be removed from the game). Ultima weapons Ultima beam uses it and you can reduce damage from it by pairing the Elemental materia with HP Plus.

Don't quote me on this, but are you talking about BLACK MATERIA? That's like HOLY. Both are unique materia if I remember correctly. You could always find them, if you know how. Neither is game changing if I recall correctly. Having played many times on Playstation and PC (which have subtle differences), I recall once following detailed and boring instructions to obtain. Then again, I may have just been dreaming.
