Enemy Skill materia doesn't seem to work

I've had Enemy Skill materia attached to Tifa almost as soon as I got the materia, but for some reason she never picked up anything (nothing listed under there) and "E Skill" is always dummied out. Is there something I'm missing as to why she's not getting anything?

I had attached it to Tifa back when I was in Midgar (it was Hojo's lab) and now I'm in the lower Junon area. She was in the party while I had it, and even experimenting with in the overworld with Tifa doesn't seem to yield results.

Yeah, you are still pretty early in the game. I think you missed matra magic and beta - those weird robots/motorcycles around midgar use matra magic and midgar zolom uses beta. You most likely never learned those because you never got hit by that skill in the first place or you got wiped afterwards (midgar zolom). For details use the guide above.

The best skills require you to manipulate an enemy and force them to use the skill on you. One comes from the big birds near junon and the other comes from the beach bug things near Costa del sol.
