Because that never happened. What they changed with the rerelease was to move from midi music to compiled full tracks in the ogg format. Though, they did convert the PC midi sound (and didn't even use the best option) first and after one year (yes this game was released before it comes to steam) they manged it to fix that. More or less.
To your problem: The game has problems to detect the proper sound device. Check if no headphones or something other is plugged into your PC. Though a fix for this long term bug will come in December.
