Just like every other game, WOW did it with Uber geared people could go to a new expansion get green common gear that was better.
Thats what drives people in MMO's today, you advance in level and you get better gear.
Every single MMORPG game have done this, your gonna get better gear anyway.
To comment on the Thread : RIFT is the best MMORPG out there and it will be alot better with SL.
And where do you find this information?
Most PvE based mmo's ive played have never had a leep like Rift has with the current content (where everything from low to highend in previouse content is renderd complete useless to new green items). We are not speaking of the longterm raiding in Storm Legion where you ofc will end up with new gear, but where random world trashmob (green) can replace current highend legendary items. the success (i think everquest stands for itself as an great example) is to have a smooth transition, not a huge step.
It feels like Trion are looking for shortterm solutions for their drop in subscribtions, the reward you get for loyality is small - comapired with other games (Everquest, Vanguard, Wow, Daoc, AoC, Eve, etc)
F2P is not a good thing, because that kind of games is nothing but "Free 2 Play", they should be called Pay to Play. Too much restrictions (ex, the new F2P version of SWTOR), at the end you end up spending more money than with a basic subscription.
That is actually great news! I have several lvl 50's that I was content with just riding around and participating in world events/ Rift openings with. I'm not a fan of the raid/dungeon crawl/grind for tokens to get gear fun for end game. I'm more of a social, get out play at my own pace. I do not find force group raiding enjoyable which is why I quit in the first place. Not a complaint, all MMOs are like this, I quit because I was done playing.
Having fresh green gear for the start of SL would benefit me greatly since I have hardly any high end gear. Nice! you just sold the game to me.
But... since its been over a year since I played last, I Might start over. Hmmmmm How populated are the starting areas?
there is still alot of grind but they have changed the system. i dinged 60 on my main and alt (dualboxing) 2 days after release (thursday 15 nov) so more information for you here: if you take a high populated server you will never run out of stuff to do (if casual) :)
gl!
This is exactly what Blizzard did with WoW Burning Crusade, and again in cataclysm...
It happens every. single. exansion. Whether it is everquest, Guild Wars, WoW, etc.
No, not all companies does like this. But i do agree that alot of the mainstreem games does. Everquest lasted 10-13 expansions before breaking down - and today comes another one for em. Anyhow, their leep aint that big, everquest always sticked to the filosofy that the grinding gear (stuff u get from leveling) should be equal to previous content highend gear (played it since 98 :P - still playing). this always gave raiding yeat another purpose, If stormlegion stayed at what you see on lvl 54 gearwize, everything would been awesome :)
