Instant Adventure
I joined an Adventure at lvl 10 and was doing well until it led to a Rift that was leveled way over my character. Just entering the battle I was losing health. My cleric died because leaving the battle, I got a still in combat msg.

Well, the problem is, I cannot travel very far without entering defiance controlled territory and some of the mobs one shot me because they're lvl 19 to my lvl 11. Heck, I was killed in seconds by a lvl 19 fox named Tod, imagine that!!! A fox named Tod!

The respawn point takes me some distance from my only active quest and then there's that fox named Tod that I have to pass to kill my last target.

Is there a way out the Instant Adventure and is there a penalty for not completing a quest?

You can right-click (Or is it left-click?) the little icon under your minimap to leave/enter your Instant Adventure, this also works with dungeons (Even while you're dead, you you can just respawn and then re-enter the dungeon with a quick click)

Other than that you always have your Soul Recall ability if its not on cooldown.

Most of the people that do those are "Mentored Down" (lowered in level) there levels range from 10 to 50, they have all of there max level skills. There was supposed to be a vote system that offered players a choice to skip current steps of an Instant Adventure and move on to something easier no idea if that was added.

Mentoring systems have been successful in multiple MMOs including Final Fantasy XI and EverQuest II. Such systems offer players a way to enjoy older content and group up with friends and guildmates of all levels.

As for the Rifts there levels range from close to the max level of the player that opens the rift or the area of the zone. If that said player is 19 then most of the monsters in the rift will be 22 to 19 or lower.

I never join random IA's, I stick to the ones in my area only, Shimmersand and Stillmoor are levels 1-20.

Instant adventure que makes life easy in that you can just leave group and it will teleport you back to where you were when joining the que, and if you are stuck somewhere you can join the que and teleport somewhere else. Look around for porticulums.
