if i don't get bored i will probably play it like you since i don't know anyone else that plays rift
Often when I'm playing with myself I wish there were more dark tunnels to explore.
and also dungeons that are more unique (all of them look to much the same :)

Maybe you actually mean if you can play it if you do not have friends that already play it? In that case definately... The looking for group system will put you in a group with 4 others so you can do the dungeon content (most fun imo). Also there are guilds for the 10-20 player raids and really it is not that commen for "friends" to be in those. A lot of players find a community inside Rift.
If you really WANT to play solo then it depends on what your goals are. If you want the best PVE (player versus environment gear) then the only path is 5 player dungeons >10/20 player raids. If you are a PVP (player vs player) then you really do not need others. And if you just want to explore , craft , find artifacts, go fishing, etc then you can also do that by yourself.
