Solo Class
I would like to now what is considered to be a good solo class for someone who is new to the game (but not to the genre). It should be a class that can handle difficult quests or easy dungeons solo. If it does this by self heal, aggro pet or other means is inconsequential. But it would be a bonus if the class would not be overly gear dependant (again, new to the game). Any insights would be apreciated.

Cleric Inquisitor is a very good solo build, it is viable for all aspects of the game as well. PvP, PvE, Raids. You heal yourself over time just by doing damage, and you have some very strong defensive cooldowns. They pull some sick dps and have a pretty straightforward rotation. If you need more in depth help (like your talent point distribution) message me and i can help you out.

dungeons solo? If you are talking about those 5 men ones, no class solo those, except when they outlevel them.

If your talking about pve in general i would say necromancer a outstanding class for what you wanna do.

Necro / Warlock / Stormcaller might work. It will certainly work for the trash. AoE Snares, AOE, a pet, self healing and mana generation.

Some combination of Stormcaller and Elementalist would certainly be good for the pet and damage synergy.

The only problem you're going to run into with these builds is that bosses tend to be immune to CC, which means your pet is going to need to tank them for you. Some boss fights might be a little complex to try to tank with a pet, but who knows?

If you limit your actions to Chronicles (note that Chronicles designed for two people are soloable, and sometimes soloing them is easier than duoing), you may be frustrated by some upgrade paths for purple gear requiring extremely rare drops from expert dungeons ("Heroics" in WoW).

However, Rift has another solo method for gear progression: Zone events.
You can pretty much do things by yourself in zone events and may group up just for bosses. Due to Rift's public group feature, decision to join a group or not is in your hands (you can choose if others can join your group or not, too).

Thanks for the input. I will try some of that stuff.

I had great fun back in the day mking a Tank/Damage hybrid Warrior, although it was a bit slow to kill some mobs he was unkillable in PvE and there was no reason to sweat if some other random mob wanted to join the fight.

I believe it was Paladin/Riftblade type hybrid with a third tank soul to add some utility. (Enough points in the 2 tank souls for heals/shields and then a lot of points in Riftblade so you had some cool attacks) it was slow but safe and I could easily pull around 3 mobs at a time or go toe to toe with an elite. (Paladin has a full heal skill which is insanely useful)

Once again, theres probably a LOT of other classes/souls and what not that'll do the job better, I just had fun with this class. (Not to mention I could act as tank in Dungeons which means fast qeues)

Actually solo Druid will probably be best for that. There is an old guide here that can still be used: http://www.gameplayinside.com/rift/rift-leveling-guide/cleric-druid-solo-leveling/ .
