f2p or p2w?
Very simple question for the experienced people of this game.
Is it f2p or p2w.I don't want to start the game and reach a point
where 11y old kids that bought some edgy items from store gonna
whoop my ass.

Can i get some replies before i start this game please?

it's completely f2p, the use of the the Rift Store is optional, excluding you having to spend $5 for the ability to sell on the Auction house, but spending the $5 is optional as well, you can just grind to endgame and grind during endgame and spend 1-1.4k platinum to buy REX which gives you enough loyalty to completely unlock the AH. Then there are the soul packs you can buy for 25-30 dollars each, but once again RL currency is 100% optional. Spending RL currency on this game gives a slight edge above players your level. Even then it's a lot of ingame and RL currency to receive this slight edge, and most of the time it's not even worthwhile or noticeable in terms of gameplay. I have about 200-400 hours on record.

Sadly I have many more hours than Menethas. I played Rift for a year and a half before putting more than a token $10 in as a thank you. The only reason that I started putting any funds into the game was to catch up a couple of alts before 3.0 came out buying experience vials.

Pay to get benefits. Pay for comfort.

Anything important can be gotten for free
Burlokk Feb 10, 2015 @ 2:47am
Nothing that can be bought do give an upper edge in terms of combat output.
Also everything can be obtained for free by buying REX from the AH..

This game have truley nailed Cash shop concept, its the best ive seen in any game.
yumri Feb 12, 2015 @ 4:07am
The best items are not in the cash shop ... as of the latest iterations anyways a little while ago it use to be that for the best PvP gear it was though they got rid of PvP gear last thing that i knew anyways that was only good in PvP i mean.
You can pay to get some of the better gear that you can use to get the best gear easier but you will still need to grind for it and there is no assurance that 10 hours of grinding will drop any thing that you want instead of just all the commons tons of times.

You can pay to catch up but that´s about it.
As other have stated, it´s not P2W and if you want to grind a bit instead, go ahead and do so.
Only thing "needed" is the 5$ for the AH but that´s it.

Rift is the perfect example how a company can change. In Rift everything is perfect and then, Trion got greedy with Archeage...

Ive played since Beta. And it is 100% Pay to win now. Buggy as hell and with each update gets worse and worse. Dont get me wrong the early game is great but Trion are now terrible devs and ruin everything that was and could be good. Do Not waste money on this game.
Blue_Flame Feb 14, 2015 @ 12:21pm

This is completely false. The game is 100% F2P and most of the people that sit and pour money into the game are only given "comfort and leisure" items/bonuses. There is not one thing in the cash store that can't be bettered by something only earnable with effort. The game is a bit grindy, yes, and paying for certain bonuses will give you a slight, SLIGHT edge in the game. if you are experienced enough with your class and know the mechanics of the game well enough, no amount of RL cash will buy another player the ability to beat you in PvP or out DPS you in PvE.

Bottom line? Learn your class and in-game mechanics. Everything will fall into place for you at that point.

I currently have over 2k hours played on my Raptr account. Have fun guys!

Very much so f2p. Nothing that's a necessity that you need to spend money on, unless you consider using the auction house a necessity. There's also earring slots that cost a bit of money from the Rift store, but those you can do without; I've not spent a penny on this game and I've got some good progress on it. Hope you enjoy the game
DAKKA Feb 16, 2015 @ 12:23pm
Listen guy, I've put a little over $200 into this game because I enjoyed it a long time ago (I only got it on Steam recently, but had it before then), and I can assure you it's not P2W. HOWEVER, grinding isn't as simple as words, and it takes a VERY, VERY, VERY LONG TIME if you're only a casual player.

If you're a hardcore addict, it can STILL take a long time to get everything you desire.
Do not listen to those who say it's just simple grinding, you also have to put time AND effort into the game.

I'm warning you right now that IF you want top-level gear and exclusives, YOU BETTER HAVE A LARGE WALLET.

P.S. Take my advice, don't get the patron ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you won't get all the patron benefits instantly unless you have a couple thousand dollars (unless they changed it up where you don't have to restart your patron levels).

P.S.S. People are elitist in this game, I only hope you find friends fast because you really do need friends in this game to advance anywhere.

First things first, it looks like a loot of people are just plain clueless about Rift - or have no idea how the game changed over the years...

I guess someone is mixing up patronage and loyalty... you will of course get your patron advantages from the first day you have a subcription or you buy a patron pass from the Rift Shop.

Now loyalty comes with purchases with credits in the Rift Store, and that is more of a "long term" goal, then something you just "buy" right from the start. The more loyalty you get, the more perks you will receive for your whole account.

Most players are helpfull ingame, and as long as you show that you are willing to learn and bring yourself in, you can reach anything ingame too.

And if you are looking for some real informations about the game, go to the official forums. You will find usefull guides and all the help either from players or from the Devs right there.
All you have to do is ask.

Now what do you need for a good start into the game?
- a Rift game box
- the Nightmare Tide Infusion Edition
And that is it for the start.

The game box will upgrade your F2P account a lot, and all perks will stay with it - only the patron advantages will run out, when the 30 days patron pass from the box ends.
The NMT Infusion Edition will save you from "grinding" a lot of void stones to unlock some usefull perks and it will deliver you a instant level 60 boost item.
Now i know, you just want to use it for yourself, BUT DO NOT DO THIS! Instead, just trade this item for at least 3 REX ingame, gather enough plat. to buy a fourth REX and then use those to get enough credits to buy the Dream Souls Pack from the Rift Shop.
Now all your powered up account is missing, are those Storm Legion Souls, and you can either go again for REX to buy them from the Rift Store, or you can buy a cheap Storm Legion Expansion Box somewhere online - your choice.

Overall you will then be set with everything there is you really need, and if you want to spend some more money, just have a subscription for the patron advantages up and running.

No need for spending "thousand of $" to play Rift. Just a few bucks at the right places. Just relax, play the game and have fun. And if you like what you see, you can take the ascend-a-friend key from my profile for some starter stuff.

Well of course, why would a casual player get items and such faster or as fast, than hardcore players that plays way way more, thats just simple logic.

Yes, and thats a bad thing?
Who want to play a game that you get everything instantly with minimal effort?

Or know how to farm platinum and not being lazy.

What the hell?
Have you even played this game, you get ALL the patron benefits instantly, and its been like that since the game got their cash shop concept.
The loyality have NEVER reverted to 0 if your patron ends, NEVER.
Maybe you are confused how loyality works, each level starts at 0..but the actual loyality is saved.

So please research abit on that subject before spreading missinformation.

Eh, so you claim that there is games out there without bad-apples?
I tend to find mostly friendly players.
Maybe superior bad people who can´t play the game rely on others to be able to advance anywhere.
A player with moderate skill will have no problem go from lv 1 to 65.

So what i get from your post is:
you don´t know basics of the game and confused how stuff works, and you blame it on the game and then you are writing your understandings as facts for everyone else, that is a bad combination.
Wolverine Feb 17, 2015 @ 6:12am
Level 1-48: story quests, instant adventures, rifts in the "classic" areas
Level 48-58: story quests, instant adventures, carnages and rifts in the "Storm Legion Expansion" areas
Level 58-65: story quests, instant adventures, carnages, rifts and perhaps a few dungeon runs in the new "Nightmare Tide Expansion" areas

If you come across Crabnarok lockboxes, you might want to keep those for level 65, and open then a few to upgrade your equipment.
You can upgrade crafted equipment on level 65 to get ready for Expert Dungeons, and with a lot of runs through them, you will be at some point ready for Raids.

And all you need to do is just play the game.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Early level, PvP wise, you will get WRECKED by those who bought their gear. Simple as that.
