RIFT
How is this game overall?
I played WoW back in the day during Burning Crusade. Is it repetatiive, or does it change up enough to keep you entertained? WoW got horribly repetative for me and i got tired of it once i got up to lvl 35 or so. Right now i am content with The Crew for an MMO, but i am considering giving this one a shot.

I want to hear from folks who have invested a good amount of playtime into this.

Just jump right into the game and play it, a new big update did just arrive yesterday, best time to give Rift a shot.
And Rift is what you make out of it, you can do quests, rifts, warfronts (pvp), dungeon and later raids or build your own dimension up - do whatever is the most fun for you.
Not to forget the seasonal events that come around every now and then, and where you can get nice gear for even currency.
You can also switch very easy between different soul setups to try different roles (tank, healer, support or dd).

And if you plan on spending some cash on Rift, do it the smart way:
-> Rift Collectors/Ultimate/Storm Legion Combo/Normal Edition Game Box,
-> Nightmare Tide Typhoon Edition,
the two soul packs:
- Storm Legion Souls
- Dream Souls
are more or less optional, and can be obtained later with ingame (get enough plat. and trade it with other player for REX, which will give you Credits to spend in the Rift Store) currency.

- with the game box comes a lot for your f2p account, and of course you will be able to use the auctionhouse fully now too.
- with the Typhoon, you will be able to use any gear (planar attunement...) and any gear slot (earring slots)
If you like what you see ingame, you can take my ascend-a-friend key from my profile for some starter items.

You have nothing to Lose from downloading a trying the game out for FREE.
Registering for the Game is FREE
Downloading the Game is FREE
Playing from 1 to 65 is FREE
Enjoying ALL of the Content is FREE

If you "liked" the aspect of vanilla wow then rift should be right up your alley, since vanilla wow had a balance of PvP and PvE content.

Now if you truely plan on sticking around in the game for a long period then, not getting bored of the horrendous grind of some of the later levels.

I recommend any player getting, The Collector's Pack:
  • 4 Additional Character Slots per Server*
  • 2 Additional Bag Slots per Character*
  • Tartagon Mount (Account Bound)
  • 24-Slot Bag (Account Bound)
  • Bogling Wastrel Pet (Account Bound)
  • 30-Day Patron Pass. (1-Month of Patron Pass also provides 7,000 Loyalty)

*Additional Character and Bag Slots are only applied to accounts that have not purchased a boxed or digital copy of RIFT in the past. If you have already received these benefits for purchasing RIFT, these benefits will not stack.

If you plan on staying even after investing a small ammount of money from buying the upgrade then you can get the rest of the things you need right inside the game within a few weeks of farming Platinum.

REX is 900 Platinum (Is a tradable credit currency in the game bought by players, used to purchase In-Game Store goods)

Storm Legion Souls are about 1500 Platinum (You can use these right a level 1 when creating a new character or using the souls in a character that's already made.)

  • Cleric = Defiler (Support)
  • Mage = Harbinger (Melee)
  • Warrior = Tempest (Ranged)
  • Rogue = Tactician (Support)

Dream Souls are about 4000 Platinum (You cannot use these until you have one level 60, there is optional Lv. 60 missions for them that unlock more lore into them each but not required to play.)

  • Cleric = Oracle (Support)
  • Mage = Arbiter (Tank)
  • Warrior = Liberator (Healing)
  • Rogue = Physician (Healing)

Thank you guys! Appreciate the info, it sounds fair i was worried about microtransactions, Lots of games get ruined with that sort of thing, looks like Rift has done it the right way.

It's a decent WoW clone in terms of combat and how it feels.

Dungeons are short and alright, they seem a bit too easy but I'm not at 65 yet so there might be harder dungeons later.

Also there's only 4 classes, but each of them has loads of Souls you can mix and match. Kind of like a more fleshed out Talent Tree with much more options and gameplay changes.

What about server population and p2w stuff (if there's any)?

No p2w items or such.
What you mostly pay for is vanity items or ingredients.
Also you can get all those stuff in the shop without paying a single dime, just buy REX for Platinum ingame and you are set.

I do not play Rift or any mmorpg through steam. I am level 63 in Rift and it is one of my top mmorpg games I enjoy. i rotate between Gulld wars 2, Archage, neverwinter nights. My favorite part of Rift is instant adventures. Rift is never boring and love the voices in it with storylines in Chronicles.

There is some p2w. you can buy weapons and dungeon gear with rl money or be ready to grind out the gear the old fasion way. either way, end game is a huge grind fest compared to what it used to be. to be 100% honest, from someone whos played since launch, If they keeped things how it was when the game first came out and even with storm legion.. The game would be fine. But they ramped up the grinding on this way to much for most to enjoy so it pits you in a corner of either doing the grind or tossing some money at it.

part of my guild quit and went back to WoW and are having a lot more fun there then we had playing rift 3.0

There is no P2W! What are you talking about? You can buy weapons? So what? You can find or buy on auction, much better stuff without any grind!
jareadsin Feb 6, 2015 @ 10:33am
Uh the only downside to most auction items like in many other games is over priced. You still see insanely high priced items on the auction house. You still can find some what good value priced items but in this case its not a highend. If a highend item is priced good it goes fast and sometime ends backup on auction house for more coins.

If you want something special, the best way is still the trade (only in cities) or the level 65 channel - just don't spam every fracking minute.
And in most cases you will either find what you are locking for, or sell an item for a good price without any auctionhouse fee to pay for.

And, also overpriced items in AH, makes your crafting things very good for sale. I have sold everything for a very good prices, almost instantly. For example in WoW, low quality items, which you made by your self, are low priced and almost untradable.

It's more F2P than most MMOs and they try hard to keep that balance. I've played many MMOs, most just to level 20 or so, and I enjoy Rift because of the diverse content and adhoc co-op gameplay of rifts, zone events, Instant Adventures and the new Nightmare Rifts. Their are also the traditional dungeon/raids. They have 1 and 2 player duneons called Chronicals, multiplayer instances (Slivers) and Raid Rifts.

The crafting is simple but useful. The class and role system is pretty unique and very flexible with the ability to switch between roles in a dungeon, raid, rift or whatever. Need AoE switch to an AoE build, need a ranged spec switched to one etc.

The character design and evironment are holding up well with age. The storylines are good and the main NPCs well thought out, despite the pink powder puff fairy walking around in her bikini :-P

It's a pretty great game. Good graphics, not much grinding to do (in my opinion, others may differ...), and the community is pretty nice. Questing is pretty straightforward, rifts are fun, and there's plenty of ways to easily get any money or experience you may need. There's also a pretty good variety of sub-classes of the four main classes.
Aanton Feb 17, 2015 @ 9:15am
I don't know but I've been playing the game on and off and the game looks kind of nice in max details. I runs well on my pc. I aint got no choppy graphics and the combat is well done. But I figured that the game is very top population, and that is most players are high level and not many in the lowest tiers.

The game is very linear you follow almost alwasy just one path of lands unlike WoW where you first start to do that in TBC etc.

Quest are ok and there are things to do in this game if you can find groups. PvP, instances and rifts. It seems really overwhelming with the gear system and all the things you can buy.

Game is more modern that's for sure and I was growing tired of old games this day. Ya there are newer games but if there was a game with better graphics and same good combat I would play. I just don't think there are any good mmo with good combat where gameplay, world and features are all well done.

Ironically this IS really a WoW clone but in a good way it's more of a WoTLK WoW clone than Pandaria.
